In South Florida, we don’t really experience what is seen as typical fall weather until around February. This little fact shouldn’t keep you from trying out some of the fall fashion trends for this year. Here are a few that are Florida-friendly and available in all price ranges.

Cardigans

Not just for Mr. Rogers anymore, adding a cardigan to your look is a surefire way to add some interest to an outfit. From patterned to plain, the cardigan can give your look a preppy feel, but also a unique, sexy vibe as well.

Plaid

It’s true that plaid is a classic and has never really gone away, but this season it is bigger than ever. There are many ways to rock plaid – you can go with the retro ’90s grunge flannel plaid or to more fitted, hipster-style Western plaid shirts. Plaid shorts are also very cool.

Chambray shirts

Chambray is lightweight cotton that has the look of denim. The material is light and looks great with khakis. Extremely trendy this season, chambray is the perfect way to work a denim look in our warmer weather.

The color purple

Not the movie or Broadway phenomenon, but the actual color. Purple creates a bold statement. Always known as a “regal” color, the rich hue looks great with casual clothes, as well as evening wear.

Back to basics

Joey from Bottoms & Tops just returned from Bryant Park for New York Fashion Week and said that a lot of the fashion was very basic and plain. A real minimalist look was ruling the runways.

Corduroys

Corduroys might be a bit hard to pull off in South Florida, but give it a month or two and the weather will cool down and you won’t regret wearing plush corduroy pants. Top it with a chambray shirt for a cool, casual look.

Retro look

“Mad Men” continues to spark trends with its sleek business suits. Look to the AMC hit for fashion inspiration. The 1960s-era chic-ness is still very much in style.

ACCESSORIES

Lace-up boots

The military look continues to be popular and with that trend comes lace-up combat boots. Leather lace-up boots are sexy and definitely make a strong statement.

Black watches

Black watches offer a different look than the typical gold and silver timepieces. Sleek and subtle, they are going to be huge this season.

Brooches

Yes, you read that correctly. Brooches for men are said to be a must-have accessory this fall. Perhaps not for everyone, but a cool brooch can look great on a lapel.

Tortoiseshell sunglasses

You can’t go wrong with tortoiseshell sunglasses. They stand out more than a classic black frame, but add a certain amount of polish to any look.
