Over the past five years, Hotspots has been on a mission to constantly seek out ways to improve our publication to better serve our vibrant LGBT community.  Without trying to sound verbose, we are very proud of our accomplishments and exceeded even our own expectations.  We have become the largest gay publication in the nation in terms of page counts.  Florida has evolved into the second largest LGBT state in the nation and we have more than tripled our reach to almost 100,000 readers every week.  None of this would have been possible without the support of our readers and advertisers and for that we are truly grateful.

INVESTING IN OUR COMMUNITY

Moving forward, Hotspots continues to invest in our community.  Nearly two years ago we were the first and only LGBT publication to be licensed by Apple and introduce iPhone and iPad APPS in the state, leading the charge towards social media.  Today we have more Facebook followers than we could have ever imagined and have invested in strategic partnerships with SNAP, the gay coupon company and Edge Media, the nation’s largest LGBT web portal.   Our growth does not stop there; with the recent acquisition of Copy This, a full service printing company in Wilton Manors, we have continued our expansion and dedication to our community.  Of course, Genre Latino, our Spanish publication and Hotspots Magazine round out the mix as the most powerful LGBT media force in the state.

OUR PEOPLE MAKE THE DIFFERENCE

Now to the heart and soul of Hotspots Media, our people:  With offices in Tampa, Miami, Fort Lauderdale and Wilton Manors (and soon in Orlando), you can only imagine how difficult it is to keep things flowing every week.  I have often said that “we are only as good as our people” and that mantra remains one of our core values.  In that spirit:

HOTSPOTS INTRODUCES OUR NEW EDITOR

We are very excited to announce the addition of Ian Maloney to our editorial staff. As the new Editor, Maloney will bring a fresh, new voice to Hotspots Media.  Originally from Delmar, Delaware, Ian received his Bachelor’s Degree in Spanish Education from the University of Delaware in 2001. While working as a Spanish teacher, he continued to study, completing a Master’s in Applied Technology in Education from Wilmington University in 2007. Shortly after completing his Master’s degree, Maloney moved to Florida. After a few years teaching high school Spanish in Ft. Lauderdale, Señor Maloney decided it was time to put the chalk down for good, stop grading papers and planning lessons, and begin searching for a new career.

His search brought him to Hotspots, and we feel that he is going to make a valuable addition to our team. After speaking with him about his first few days on the job, he said “I am very excited to begin this new phase in my career. Working at Hotspots will allow me to use my voice, not only on the aspect of entertaining the gay community, but also to bring focus to other issues that affect our community, from arts to politics and everything in between.”

Watch for Ian’s’ features as we bring you even more new content and a fresh new prospective of gay life in Florida.
