I spoke with Bradford Cohen about the law practice he shares with Michael McMullen in this Hotspots interview.
Where did you and your law partner earn your law degrees?
I earned my degree from Nova Southeastern University and Mike McMullen went to the University of Miami.
How do you feel you can give better service to your clients in a smaller practice?
I think that a small practice benefits the client more because we limit the number of cases that we take. I know partners in larger law practices might not have the time to personally return phone calls. When people call our firm, they speak with me or Mike McMullen directly. I think that adds to the quality of representation.
We like to call our firm a “boutique firm,” which means we really go out of our way for our clients. If they need to sign a document and they can’t get to our office, we’ll go to them and pick them up. We think that exemplifies great service to the client, to be able to go above and beyond.
When a client comes to you to defend them, what do you do to help them pursue their case?
We see a case “soup to nuts.” We learn what exactly happened, where it happened, why, and how. Once we get that out of the way, we’ll go to the scene and take pictures of the accident. Then we file a demand packet, which puts the insurance companies on notice. It lets them know what happened and what kind of damages the client is looking for. We recommend medical providers if they need them. Then we try to negotiate to lower their medical bills, so they can get as much money as possible after a settlement. This process can take as little as a month or two, depending on the case’s complexity.
