The Gay Men’s Chorus of South Florida is starting up another concert cycle, and that means open auditions! Anyone who wants to try out is welcome to do so. The first rehearsals of the season will be held on Tuesday, September 8 and Tuesday, September 15 at 6:30 p.m. at Sunshine Cathedral in Fort Lauderdale. Afterwards, there will be auditions and voice placements on Saturday, September 19.GMCSF_logo

Attending the rehearsals will give you a better idea of how the chorus operates, should you want to proceed to the audition date on September 19. At the audition, the artistic director, Gordon Roberts, will greet everyone auditioning and then he will ask each participant, one-by-one, to sing either a familiar piece of music or a selection of the participant’s choosing. Sight-reading may be asked of participants but it is not required for acceptance into the chorus.

Also at the audition, participants will speak with the chorus’s leadership team, and they will give everyone an idea of what it takes to be involved in the chorus. There are weekly rehearsals on Tuesdays with sporadic rehearsals on Saturdays; members are required to attend at least three-quarters of the rehearsals for each concert cycle. There is also a $20 monthly fee each chorus member has to pay as dues.
