Island City Stage presents the world premiere of James L Beller, Jr.’s riveting new drama, “Son” with previews tonight and the official opening night on Saturday April 8. On the morning of their wedding, the teenage son of a lesbian couple is confronted with a shocking accusation. “Son” explores the devastating impact of the past on the present as a relationship is tested and secrets revealed. “Son” runs through May 7 with performances on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 5 p.m. The theatre is located at 2304 N Dixie Highway in Wilton Manors. The annual Miami Beach Gay Pride weekend officially starts today  with the VIP Party at W South Beach and then continues with the two day festival on Saturday and Sunday which includes performances, multiple stages, DJs, the parade on Sunday and much more. Saturday, April 8

Front Runners & Walkers Fort Lauderdale present their Inaugural Pride Center Run/Walk and Free Breakfast at 7:30 a.m. Celebrate as they move their weekly Saturday workout to the Pride Center at Equality Park. A hot breakfast will be served to all runners and walkers. TransSocial and The Pride Center at Equality Park presents a Tran’s Men’s Night Of Empowerment, focusing on the health and well-being of Trans Men at 6:30 p.m. at Dynamic Recovery Center (2424 W Oakland Park Blvd). The Keynote speaker will be Rodrigo Heng-Lehtinen, who is a dedicated LGBTQ advocate and nationally recognized expert on Transgender issues. Believe it or not it’s almost been a year and it’s almost time to crown a new Miss Florida F.I. at Large. The pageant will take place on Monday, April 24th at The Parliament House in Orlando. There have been many girls who have qualified by doing preliminaries, but since this is only year two of the return, the pageant is still open for anyone to enter as long as they are 225 pounds and above. The categories include Evening Gown, Swim Suit, talent and Q& A. The pageant will star Nicole T Phillips, your current reigning Miss Florida F.I. at Large, Shantell D’Marco, your current reigning Miss Florida F.I. and many of the formers.
