Scandals Saloon Celebrates It’s 5th Anniversary
Scandals Saloon is one of the most successful bars/clubs in the history of Fort Lauderdale gay nightlife and the most successful country western bar in the state of Florida. As they approach their 5th anniversary I thought I would sit down with the owners Ken Kelley and Lloyd Pagels as well as the managers Howard Merritt (GM) and Craig Cannan and discuss their history and the secrets to their success.

Brett Henrichsen started his career as a marketing specialist for IBM. But at night he was in the clubs and record stores listening to dance music. He used the (then expensive) burners at IBM to make custom CD's for his friends of his favorite music. As he learned the general public couldn't buy the remixes they were hearing in the clubs, he decided to sell those compilations. From that idea an empire grew which includes the original Masterbeat CD series, New Year's Eve events, an international circuit DJ and now the web's greatest online dance music store - www.masterbeat.com

Sandra Bernhard
Sandra Bernhard burst onto the stand-up comedy scene in the late 70's and has never looked back. From live theater, to television, to movies, to literature, Sandra has made a contribution in virtually all areas of artistic expression. She is outspoken, but always consistent on her views of Americana and how to make this world a better place. As she gets ready to bring her one woman show to Fort Lauderdale it was my pleasure to sit down and conduct an exclusive interview with someone I consider to be a legend in comedy.

The Corporate Closet
As my group settled into our seats at Hamburger Mary's in Ybor on New Year's Eve, I was struck by the odd presence of Auburn University paraphernalia. For a moment, I was back on campus of my alma mater. Everywhere I looked, I saw Auburn shirts, hats, flags, pins – a veritable sea of orange and blue. Someone finally clued me in that Auburn was playing in the Outback Bowl.

A Loss For Words
When I don't know a lot of people in the crowd, it is my common M.O. to drink until I think I'm funny. Recently while attending an afternoon party, riding that fine line between too-sober-to-relax and too-drunk-to-form-sentences became increasingly difficult when I met an attractive man who is very much my type. About two hours and six cocktails into the day, I muster the ability to speak and, surprisingly, we hit it off quite well. Before parting ways, I asked if I will see him out that night and am elated when he agrees.

Upon sitting down with Dr. Max Zaslavsky we had an immediate bond, not only because of his inviting smile but because we both received our graduate degrees from the same university, and are also both from Brooklyn, NY. “Dr. Max” is friendly, charming, and easy to talk to, which are three key ingredients that are important when you are looking for a dentist. After chatting about our university days and growing up in the NY area, it was a pleasure to conduct this one on one interview with a dentist that truly cares about his patients.

A bout six months ago I met with the mayor of Fort Lauderdale, Jack Seiler, at my home in Parkland. He told me that the city of Fort Lauderdale wanted to name a street after me. I suggested that this event take place sometime in May because that would be the 50th anniversary of the filming of the movie Where the Boys Are and that my name and Where the Boys Are were synonymous; that 75% of the time when I meet people they always say ...
