Azúcar on the move

AzucarWebRecently, Azucar Night Club was forced to relocate.  There has been a lot of speculation and rumor, not to mention confusion, in the community as to why it happened and the club's future plans.  To help clarify the situation, Latino Boys Magazine took a moment to sit with Tony Rodriguez, General Manager and ask him a few questions on the matter.

AzucarOwnerWebWhy did Azucar have to relocate?

The building where the club resided was purchased by new owners who already had plans for what they wanted to do with the space…our lease term was up and we had to find another location.

Just to confirm then, Azucar Night Club, its management and talent such as "Mary Trini y Las Divas del Jacuzzi" is no longer affiliated with the location off of Coral Way and 32nd Avenue in Miami?

That is correct.  While it saddens us to lose the space where we've essentially built our family and our solid reputation for over 10 years, we are no longer associated with anything that goes on at that location.

Currently, what has the management team done to ensure that the quality Latin entertainment Azucar is known for continues in South Florida?

We are in the process of finalizing an agreement with a new location that will be Azucar’s new home.  I don’t want to speculate as far as where it is because it’s not final, and I don’t want to give the wrong information.  But believe me, it will be a great surprise!  In the mean time we are being hosted by Sandals Night Club at 1060 NE 79th Street.  All operations for the time being are there, including all the house talent and shows by Marytrini y Las Divas del Jacuzzi.

How soon do you anticipate the announcement of the location?

We will have a confirmed location within the next few weeks. We want to make sure that the new place is exactly what we are looking for as a business and for our clients.  We also don’t want to take chances and have to make a move again.

Any other thoughts you would like to share?

While this situation has been difficult for us and confusing for many, we are proud to move on to this next phase in the evolution of Azucar.  Sandals has been a great solution thus far and it has been a while that we had been looking at other sites for Azucar. These developments just push things along faster and allow us to deliver a new experience to our loyal patrons once we determine a permanent home.
