Hi there! My name is Mike Halterman and I am the new Central Florida editor of Hotspots Magazine, and as such, I will be writing the What’s Hot Central Florida column starting with this issue.
I first moved to Tampa from my hometown of Pensacola back in 2004, so I could attend the University of South Florida (Go Bulls!). You may recognize me from my past experience writing and editing the now-defunct OMG! Magazine. I also created my own magazine, Out on the Town, which brought me to Arkansas to live for two years. My work in Arkansas earned me a “40 Under 40” award from The Advocate magazine in 2012. The call of my home state was something I couldn’t ignore, though, and within four months of moving back, I can say that I’m honored to be joining the Hotspots team as we set our sights on giving you the best and most up-to-date LGBT nightlife information we can for Central Florida.
I’m not the only person Hotspots is bringing aboard to optimize our product in Central Florida. I, along with the rest of the team, will have the honor of working with our new Central Florida Account Executive, Bob Swanson. Bob comes down to Florida (and Hotspots) from Atlanta, where he was the Director of Sales for David Atlanta Magazine. With Bob on board, he will definitely be a key asset in allowing us to expand even further into the Tampa Bay and Orlando metro areas.
One thing that we pride ourselves on at Hotspots is being comprehensive. In addition to what Bob and I bring to the table, I am very happy to be featured alongside our current Central Florida contributors, who have been established names in the community and in the magazine for quite some time: Mark and Carrie, arguably the backbone of the entire GaYbor district in Tampa, as well as our Central Florida photographers: Ja Jose, and our current reigning Miss Gay USofA Classic, Amy DeMilo. Thank you for all you’ve done, and all you continue to do, and I can only hope I add to the legacy you’ve helped carve already.
I hope we become “best girlfriends” as I dish to you what’s hot and where to go throughout the week here in the center of the state.
Lots of love to all of you!
