Hey guys! There was such a great crowd at Valentine’s in Tampa to see Desiree DeMornay. Her costumes and her hair were ON POINT and she brought down the house to everyone’s applause and approval. When she saw I mentioned her in What’s Hot, she let me know she was very honored! Then I got a candid shot of her reading Hotspots. If a picture is worth a thousand words, getting the snapshot of Miss Desiree loving our mag was a story that was music to our ears.
We’re heading out to Orlando this weekend to see the sassy trio of singing comedy queens Willam, Detox and Vicky Vox. It will also be my first trip to Orlando since I started writing the What’s Hot Central Florida column! If you see me around, smile for the camera and you may see your photo in the Central Florida section of an upcoming issue! Lots of love to you all!
Thursday July 4
The Fourth of July is a prime time to celebrate what makes this nation great, with good food, cold drinks, and close friends. Might we recommend soaking up some rays at a poolside T-Dance at Flamingo Resort in St. Petersburg? DJ Eric O will be providing the jams. The T-Dance starts at noon, and boys will start dancing on boxes at 1! Giveaways and contests will be hosted by Kamden Cass between 4 and 6, and as the sun goes down in the evening, one party will wind down as another starts. College Night will begin at 9 in the dance club.
Friday July 5
Tiffany Arieagus is a living treasure in the Florida LGBT community, so much so that they call her “the First Lady.” Her experience in female impersonation spans four decades and includes being a past national titleholder in the Miss Continental pageant. She will be performing a special show at Bradley’s on 7th in Tampa on Friday, at 11:30 p.m. and again at 1:15 a.m.
Over in Orlando, RuPaul’s Drag Race fan favorite Yara Sofia wants you to “‘echa pa’ ‘lante” over to Revolution Nightclub where she will be performing a hot holiday show with former Miss Contintental Plus Terri Williams. Showtimes are at 11 p.m. and 12:30 a.m. and also feature the regular show cast consisting of Lisa Lane, Maya Andrews, Sasha Colby and Blue Starr. Can’t catch Friday? Yara and Terri will be there Saturday too.
Also in Orlando, another RuPaul queen will be turning it out as Alyssa Edwards is the first act in a long holiday weekend for Parliament House. The Footlight Players will be performing alongside Alyssa at 10 p.m. and 12 a.m. DJ Joanie will be making everyone dance with hot mixes until 3 a.m.
Finally, back in Tampa, Steam Fridays over at The Honey Pot will be hosting the hottest DJs and music producers from London, two-time Grammy nominated duo Moto Blanco. VJ Bruce Devery will be opening for the duo when the doors open at 10 p.m. At 11 there will be a drag show headlined by Amy DeMilo, who always makes Hotspots and GaYbor proud!
Saturday July 6
Liquid Tampa will be hosting their yearly candy-themed event Candyland, featuring fashion queen Nina Flowers from RuPaul’s Drag Race and Billboard-reporting DJ Greg Anderson. Hosted by Conundrum, the party starts at 9 p.m. when the doors open, and Nina’s shows will be at midnight and 2 a.m. Inquire about how you can get a special VIP meet and greet with Nina after her show!
I saved the event I’m attending for last. Willam, Detox and Vicky Vox are coming from out West to sing their hits at Parliament House in Orlando. Everyone’s heard their song parodies such as “Chow Down (at Chick-Fil-A),” to the tune of “Hold On” by Wilson Phillips, and their send-up of Alicia Keys’ music as only drag queens know how with “This Boy is a Bottom.” Get there early and get a good seat because being late is something you will have to “RuPaulogize” for.
