WHAT’S HOT CENTRAL FLORIDA: Everything You Need to Plan Your Week
by Mike Halterman
I can’t believe it’s the final week in July already! With the killer heat and lots of rain, I’m more than ready to move into autumn with its lower humidity and more enjoyable sunshine. I said it before, but I’ve lived in Florida 23 out of my 27 years and I’ve never gotten used to how hot a Florida summer is! This week, I looked up events that will help you cool off while still feeling (figuratively) hot.
In addition to Tampa and Orlando events, you’ll notice that suburban Tampa Bay and Lakeland also have events listed in the column this issue. While GaYBOR, Central Avenue and OBT are totally fun, the gay community in central Florida is situated in more places than just those three, and I try my hardest every week to get you to the coolest events here, there, and everywhere in between. Lots of love to you all!
Friday July 26
Everyone’s favorite comedy queen, Pandora Boxx from season 2 of RuPaul’s Drag Race, is going to make central Florida laugh with a stop at Pulse in Orlando, to help them celebrate their ninth anniversary. This special appearance is part of Infusion Friday, and their Fridays are intended for mature audiences only (sorry under-21s!). DJ Power Infiniti will be serving hot beats.
Pasco County is serving face with a Friday night drag show extravaganza over at The Cribari Club in New Port Richey. There will be two shows, at 11 p.m. and 12:30 a.m. and in the cast this week will be Monica Malone, Summer Breeze, Nia Gabrielle Malone and Aliana Divine. Want to see some hot go-go boys? They precede the show at 10.
Saturday July 27
Parliament House is going to be playing host to a hot foursome from South Beach with a “South Beach Invasion” show. The Footlight Players will do their regularly scheduled show at 10 and 12, and then the South Beach queens Nikki Adams, TP Lords, Sasha Lords and Missy LePaige will take the stage for the audience waiting just for them here in Central Florida! DJ Brianna will be spinning until 3 a.m.
In Tampa, Bradley’s on 7th is hosting the 2013 Miss Suncoast Softball All-Star Pageant Revue at 7 p.m. Now in its 20th year, this revue is a fundraiser with proceeds supporting the Ybor Youth Clinic. Past winners of Miss Suncoast Softball, Mr. Suncoast Softball and Miss Gasparilla Softball Classic will be glammed up and raising money for the children. Also, the Suncoast Softball League players will try their hand at camp drag or glam drag…all for the kids!
Pulse in Lakeland will be hosting a ’70s disco karaoke night with a hot beach theme, starting at 10 p.m.! Pulse’s drag cast will be performing in between the karaoke competitions on offer. The best singer earns a bar tab, as does the worst singer, so be sure to stand out one way or the other! Make sure to be dressed in your hottest and best swimwear because there will also be a contest with reward for the best outfit.
Quench Lounge in Largo will be hosting a night to remember with “The Prom You Wish You Had,” allowing everyone to make some all-new fabulously gay prom memories! The festivities will start at 7:30 and your prom emcees will be Madisyn Michaels and Alexis Mateo. There will be prizes for best male and female prom attire, including bar tabs, various prizes, and the titles of Prom King and Queen!
Sunday July 28
The third annual Miss Heart of Pasco County pageant, a preliminary to the Miss Heart of Florida pageant, will be held at 9 p.m. (doors open at 8) at Chill Chamber in New Port Richey. The current Miss Heart of Pasco County, Aspen Love, will be crowning her successor at the end of the night, with various Miss Heart of Florida sisters on hand to help, including the current Miss Heart of Florida, Brittany Moore, as well as Miss Heart of Florida emeritus Esme Russell and Miss Heart of Florida 2010 Amy DeMilo.
Monday July 29
The Broken Tusk in St. Petersburg is hosting a fundraiser to help Community Action Stops Abuse (CASA) called “Break the Silence,” for victims of domestic abuse in Pinellas County. Hosted by Susan Gutierrez, the night will include a lot of entertainment for a beneficial cause. The event begins at 8 p.m. and will feature DJ Pearl, live music by Mr. and Mrs. Smith, a bagpipe player, and an entire roster of community favorites including Esme Russell, Stephanie Stuart, Olivia St. James, Alexis de la Mer, Muffy Van Beaverhousen, and many more!
Tuesday July 30
For Tuesday nights we return to The Broken Tusk for a hot underwear party. If you wear your sexiest underwear or jockstrap, you will find that there is a special reward for you waiting at the bar! Strip down with the other hotties starting at 10 p.m.
