Welcome to Teabagistan: Government Shutdown, Debt Ceiling, and Ted F*%king Cruz
It’s no secret that the US Government is a disaster these days. From the government shutdown and barreling towards financial ruin for the entire country, to Ted Cruz, Sara Palin and Michele Bachmann posturing at the World War II Memorial in the Nation’s capitol, it has been a crazy few weeks in the political world. Tea baggers have taken the Republican Party hostage and the rest of us, it seems, are just along for the ride. Well, enough is enough. To quote Howard Beale (Peter Finch) in the film Network: I don’t know what to do about the depression and the inflation and the Russians and the crime in the street. All I know is that first you’ve got to get mad. You’ve got to say, ‘I’m a HUMAN BEING, God d@mn it! My life has VALUE!’ So I want you to get up now. I want all of you to get up out of your chairs. I want you to get up right now and go to the window. Open it, and stick your head out, and yell, ‘I’M AS MAD AS HELL, AND I’M NOT GOING TO TAKE THIS ANYMORE!
It really infuriates me that the entire government can be hijacked because one party (republicans) can’t get their sh*t together enough to do the ONE single job they were elected to do. Funding the government is the one essential job of congress. Everything else is secondary. I understand that some people don’t like the Affordable Care Act, but there are other ways to go about making changes to it, or doing away with it besides shutting down the government in a hissy fit.
I just don’t get the Tea Party. If you don’t believe in government, why would you run for office? His own fellow Republican, Representative Peter King from New York has gone on the record and said “The fact is, if you come up with a strategy that’s going to shut down the government of the United States, and you have no way of winning, you’re either a fraud, or you’re totally incompetent,” I wholeheartedly agree with Representative King, and it’s really REALLY rare that I agree with a Republican on anything. Perhaps a senior GOP aide said it best when they said: “”Some people came here to govern and make things better for their constituents. Ted Cruz came here to throw bombs and fundraise off of attacks on fellow Republicans. He’s a joke, plain and simple.”
My favorite word that has come out of all the right wing mumbo jumbo is Teabagistan, the country that Ted Cruz, Sara I can see Russia from my house Palin, and Michele Bachmann would like to make the USA into. Perhaps we can all agree that Cruz would be the Senate Majority leader of Teabagistan, perhaps Palin would be the President, Bachmann would be the Speaker of the House. Her husband would probably run for “first fluffer of Teabagistan” since we all know what he likes to do in his closet….
Luckily this time, we have avoided reaching the debt ceiling and defaulting on our loans thus ruining the full faith and credit of the United States. However, all the House of Representatives and Senate has done is to kick the can down the road a few months and we will have this silly game of chicken once again shortly after the New Year, essentially ensuring that the greatest country in the world, the country that most others try to emulate continues living paycheck to paycheck. Why does this have to be the way that we run our country? Many people keep saying that if you continue to wrestle on the edge of a cliff, eventually you are bound to go over that cliff. Sadly, it probably won’t cost the lawmakers much out of their own pockets, after all, most of them are bound for lobbyist positions after their tenure in Washington, but it will have devastating effects on real people like you and me, who want to borrow money to buy new cars, or homes, or just want to find a new job.
