Now wait just a minute…the St. Petersburg mayoral election is coming up on Tuesday, November 5! Incumbent Republican mayor Bill Foster faces off against Democrat Rick Kriseman.

Kriseman received the endorsements of the Stonewall Democrats of Pinellas County and Equality Florida fairly early in the campaign. While in the State House, he co-sponsored legislation to allow gay adoption, to ban discrimination in the workplace, and to create a statewide domestic partnership registry. While none of these bills advanced in the legislature, he proved his dedication to the St. Petersburg LGBT community.

Foster, however, has struggled with supporting LGBT equality. He eventually approved domestic partnerships and a city employee partner benefits bill in 2012, and became the first St. Petersburg mayor to officially recognize LGBT Pride Month this year. But he took his time to change while the LGBT community waited…a wait they didn’t have to endure.

Do not waste your voice by wasting your vote. No matter who you choose, just make sure you go to the polls on November 5 and choose.
