Birthers Last Breath?

The wingnuts have officially begun to self-destruct and are apparently not averse to eating their own. WorldNetDaily.com recently reported that TheObamaFile.com, whose webmaster swears, “This guy is coming down, there’s nothing anybody can do about it,” is done. Part of what he said was true, nobody did anything about it. In spite of all the attention birthers have gotten it appears they are all in it for their own benefit; seventy year-old Parker Shannon has received numerous e-mail proclaiming he’s a great patriot but hasn’t been receiving any money from supporters, so he’s quit

In spite of all the attention birthers have gotten it appears they are all in it for their own benefit; seventy year-old Parker Shannon has received numerous e-mail proclaiming he’s a great patriot but hasn’t been receiving any money from supporters, so he’s quit. This tired movement has definitely overstayed its welcome – even Fox News’ Bill O’Reilly has described the whole “Where’s the birth certificate?” spiel as a non-issue. It’s truly mind-numbing that it has taken multiple lawsuits in federal court, people getting fired for doing dumb things on the job (two patrol officers in Georgia were suspended for running a background check on President Obama from their patrol vehicle) and O’Reilly crossing sides for reality to be recognized. I sure hope that healthcare reform bill brewing in DC offers mental health coverage!

Soylent Green? V?

The rumors, paranoia and downright insanity took a twisted turn last week as fear mongers began telling people Obama wants to kill their grandmother. Yes, I’m serious. The plan is to send government employees to talk to everyone as they reach the age of 65 to discuss their end of life. Saturday Night Live alumnus Victoria Jackson recently penned a column for BigHollywood.com in which she said, “I’d been wondering why the liberals are so passionate about this Health Care thing… I suddenly awoke at 3 a.m. I had the answer. Euthanasia!” What Ms. Jackson doesn’t know is that the government workers will be using the information gathered during their interviews to put together individualized video presentations for use in the processing center before the sick and elderly are turned into food. Ms. Jackson should be aware of the dangers of eating Doritos and watching Soylent Green before bedtime.

Of all the crazy things you hear and read in the media, at least Ali Davis at 365Gay.com has a sense of humor. In her coverage of Obama birthers and deathers she issued a challenge to those in the media to start rumors that healthcare reform is actually a plot by reptilian aliens. Here it goes… The birthers are right and they almost found out the truth. Obama really is an alien, a reptilian one that is visiting this planet to prepare it for the invasion force that is coming! And they’re coming hungry! Wait… Damn. I should know better than to eat Doritos while watching reruns of V before bedtime.

Reality Check

Legislation has been introduced in Albania, a predominantly Muslim nation, that would legalize same-sex marriage. We can’t get even get a hate crimes bill passed here! So far (this year alone) we’ve had the Matthew Shepard Act attached to a defense funding bill, which was subject to a possible veto because the defense bill contained money for jets that the White House and Defense Department didn’t want to spend. That amendment was voted off, but Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) offered an amendment as a poison pill that would impose the death penalty for certain hate crimes. Apparently he’s assuming that only liberals want to pass the hate crimes bill and that those liberals will all be opposed to the death penalty. What the naïve Sen. Sessions doesn’t realize is that some of us are just bitter enough to approve. The saga continues…

Rep. Alcee Hastings (FL) last week introduced an amendment to a defense appropriations bill that would strip the Department of Defense’s funding for investigation and discharge of LGBT service members under Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell (DADT). The next day, before we could even work up a good cheer, Hastings withdrew the amendment citing pressure from the White House. I’m pretty sure he means the same White House from which President Obama declared a month earlier that DADT weakened national security, but that White House so far has not responded to the letter Hastings and others sent in June regarding its repeal. I’m not sure if this passes the smell test or whether others and I are being paranoid. I guess we can take comfort in some theories that suggest the amendment might have conflicted with pending, stand-alone repeal legislation that so far has 178 sponsors. Time will tell.

That’s it for this week, but feel free to carry on the conversation at HotspotsMagazine.com/Situation. Meanwhile it’s late – I’m going to grab a bag of Doritos and see what’s on SyFy.
