Review – Kate Perry Firework

Kate Perry – She is hard to place in the mainstream music world, let alone in the LGBT Music scene. Katy Perry is considered one of the few female vocalist with the range, rhythm, power and edge that can keep her slamming out the hits. Controversy should be her middle name, with racey edged music videos, like “I Kissed A Girl” to her statements made in the press regarding her reasons for marriage to Russell Brand, which were regarded as rude and put the LGBT Community in a hold pattern for Katy.

Katy Perry, Lover Of LGBT or Lover of the ratings we give her?

She is hard to place in the mainstream music world, let alone in the LGBT Music scene. Katy Perry is considered one of the few female vocalist with the range, rhythm, power and edge that can keep her slamming out the hits. Controversy should be her middle name, with racey edged music videos, like “I Kissed A Girl” to her statements made in the press regarding her reasons for marriage to Russell Brand, which were regarded as rude and put the LGBT Community in a hold pattern for Katy. She was quoted by The New York Times as saying “”A gay couple I know are going to get married for British citizenship and I’m like, ”Oh!”.

But of course I want to get dual citizenship. Those lines at Heathrow (airport) are disgusting. So, I mean, that would be a perk, right?”. With songs that have ranged from confused Barbie’s (“Your So Gay”) to her newest release “Firework”, Katy has drawn both accolades and criticism from the LGBT Community. Her new CD “Teenage Dream” has not done as well as hoped, with a slow climb on the chart and even slower sales on the digital download world. So is Katy Perry trying to re-connect to her LGBT fan base by stating that “Firework” song and music video are dedicated to the “It Gets Better” project, or is she on the hunt to improve her ratings and boost her losing LGBT base?

Katy Perry is still new to the Pop World and her new CD Shows it, jumping from slow blends of synths and bass of “California Gurls” to club style electro synths and drum loops of her title track “Teenage Dream”. I would recommend for my club-going fans the Kascade Club Mix that comes on the CD, Maybe Katy should have him Produce more of her dance songs. Overall the CD is flighty and loose with no real focus to it. However, it does show more of Katy Perry’s growth as a Pop Artist. Recommendation is to download the singles and if ya like it then by the rest of the cd as singles. As she grows as a pop artist maybe she will learn to not be so flighty with the fans who made her a pop star to begin with.
