Last Thursday was the grand opening of Johnny’s in Miami Latin Night and it was a huge success with performances by Marytrini and Teresita with DJ Lannier Alvarez on the turntables. Last Week in Review

Last Thursday was the grand opening of Johnny’s in Miami Latin Night and it was a huge success with performances by Marytrini and Teresita with DJ Lannier Alvarez on the turntables.

Friday was the much anticipated 2nd annual Broward Bares it, a benefit for Broward House at Paradise Live at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino. The show started promptly at 8 pm and featured many fabulous acts all to raise much needed money for Broward oldest HIV/AIDS organization. A special congratulation goes out to my friends Terry DeCarlo and Nikki Adams for organizing such a fantastic event! On Saturday the Corner Pub featured the Stonewall Knights Bike Nite which was a benefit for Smart Ride 8. There were over 50 motorcycles and the bar and parking lot were packed. Congrats to Shannon Anthony for a great event! On Saturday Sidelines had a benefit to send both of their softball teams, the Cyclones and Eagles, to the gay World Series. The highlight was the swimsuit auction which had sexy guys in their skivvies.

Sunday night the Manor featured the Roast of Victor Zepka which packed the main room with Victors friends and loved ones. The night featured lots of fun roasting and performances by some of the court of Miss Florida.

Thursday, August 25

Edison Farrow and SOBE Social Club present the grand re-opening of Buck, The Simple Life Thursdays at Buck 15 Lounge (437 Lincoln Lane; 2 blocks east of previous location) starring DJ Daisy D and no cover charge!

Growl Fridays at Bill’s Filling Station presents a Bear Appreciation Party with special guest Alessio Romero and don’t forget the very popular Sexy Man Contest at Midnight hosted by Miss Kitty!

Living Room Nightclub presents Underground with direct from New York City DJ Jalil Z. The night is hosted by Alex Prieto and Ryan Work and features no cover!

Tonight and tomorrow the Boardwalk presents Chi-Chi LaRue spinning live on stage from 9 pm to 3 am.

Bubble Gum Fridays at The Manor presents their monthly Boxers and Briefs Underwear Party, where you can check your clothes at the door. The night also features the Lip Sync for Your Life contest at 2 am hosted by Daisy Deadpetals, a performance by Estephania St. Lords and DJ JPS.

Saturday, August 27

Pridelines Youth Services presents Masquerade, an evening of mystery and intrigue which is the only gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender prom for adults in South Florida. The event takes place at Jungle Islands from 7 to 11 pm and will feature entertainment, dancing, a cocktail reception, a silent auction, a dinner and will honor Robert Loupo of Safe Schools South Florida and Temple Israel for their dedication to the LGBTQ youth community. Sidelines Sports Bar recently held the second round of its Summer Cook-Off Competition in which the best recipe for chicken wings was the challenge of the day. The esteemed panel of judges selected Robin Rotellini’s chicken wing recipe as the 1st Place winner and Steve Scott was voted as the 2nd Place winner. Both Robin and Steve’s recipes now earn them eligibility for the final round of the contest, to take place over Labor Day weekend on Monday, on September 5, 2011. The “People’s Choice Award”, as selected by the attending Sidelines’ patrons, went to Robin Rotellini as well.

Designer, athlete and HIV/AIDS activist and educator Jack Mackenroth has had the privilege of shooting with some of the best photographers in the business. Each month of the 15 month calendar will feature a different photographer with a very different style. Jack is a role model to many people in the HIV community and a fitness model that many aspire to emulate.

Photographers taking part in the project include Adam Bouska, Rick Day, Carsten Fleck, Frank Louis, James Franklin, Karl Giant, Tommy Synnamon, Mattheus Lian, Richard Gerst, Ray John Pila, Sonny Tong, Thomas Evans, Krys Fox and Preston Cros. “I have amassed such an amazing collection of images that I wanted to put out a calendar that will help to combat the silence and stigma associated with being HIV-positive,” says Mackenroth. He adds, “If I can raise money for HIV/AIDS research, it’s even better.” Jack has been a vocal and visible advocate of the HIV community, touring the country through numerous speaking engagements and special appearances at events.

He continues to speak around the country and will be planning calendar signing events in the upcoming months. His memoir, “Making Lemonaids” will be released this winter. The autographed calendar will be available for pre-sale starting now, with shipping starting Sept. 15, 2011.
