What’s HOT South Florida (7/12/2012 – 7/19/2012)

The last week was all about drag and mostly Miami. A week ago Sunday I went to the Salpica Sundays at Club Sugar for the second week of their new Cabaret show starring Teresita La Caliente and guests including Mariloly, Amanda West and more. Then on Monday were the finals of Palace Drag race hosted by Latrice Royale (from RuPauls Drag Race season 4) and Missy Meyakie. The 4 finalists battled it out with beauty and talent, but in the end the winner was Tayanna Love. On Wednesday I headed over to Boom to see the return of Lartrice Royale. In honor of the 4th of July she did a fantastic impersonation of Wonder Woman to the delight of the crowd. Saturday night Noche Latina Saturdays at the Manor celebrated the 40th birthday of Latin Diva Erika Norell with a blow out party and special guest Champagne Bordeaux. Sunday evening started out with the 5th anniversary of Mova. Seen amongst the crowds was Mayor Matti Bower and Commissioner Michael Gongora. Congratulations to Babak on 5 successful years on South Beach! Later that night I headed over to Solare Coliseum in Doral to see Marytrini with La Radisson and Vina in their new Noches de Cabaret. The owner Angela was extremely gracious and gave me a personal tour of this beautiful new space. The show was top notch with production, fabulous drag numbers and of course the one of a kind comedy of Marytrini!

Karen works as a refrigerator repair dispatcher who enlists the help of her janitor friend Meagan when a repair call comes in from a man who just might be the father Karen never knew.  The duo strike out to the trailer park on the repair call where they come across Karen’s half-sister who is addicted to betting … a half-brother tortured by grade school bullies … a sketchy but charming buddy “just sleeping on the couch” … and a potential lover in jail.  Meanwhile, Meagan must decide between the stability of her longtime girlfriend or the thrill of a new love. This is just a typical day for a typically dysfunctional family in typically bizarre small town Americana.  The movie is being shown at 8 pm at the Gateway Theater (1820 E Sunrise Blvd. Fort Lauderdale). Tickets in advance (FLGLFF.com, Member Code: 954glow) are $9 for Members and $11 for guests and at the Box Office they are $11 Members and$13 for guests.
