What’s HOT South Florida (1/17/2013 – 1/24/2013)

Sunday was the annual Check presentation for the Smart Ride, and if I am not mistaken, this is the largest AIDS fundraiser in the state of Florida with over $880,000 raised. There really are no words for that, just a heartfelt thank you to Glen and his entire team for raising much needed funds…

A week ago Wednesday was the bi-monthly Mack Luncheon which was once again filled with the movers and shakers in the gay and gay friendly business world. This time the luncheon was held at China Grill, which, as always, served some fabulous food. Congrats to Dan and DJ for consistently producing quality luncheon mixers. On Wednesday, the new Chill Wine Bar hosted the party for Richard Gray returning to Florida in his new position at the CVB. It is obvious that Richard is well loved in this town because Chill was packed with well wishers. Friday was the premiere of Girls Night Out at Azucar, hosted by Theresa & Poizon Ivy with music by DJ Delma. Also Friday night was the monthly Red Heat party at Depot. Saturday there were plenty of events to keep a girl on the move. It started with Terry and Bill’s wedding reception (they got married in New York about a month ago) at Richardson Park where the food from Alibi Catering was delish (special shout out to the coconut shrimp…YUM!) and the music was by DJ Andy Ajar (Bill’s, Gaydays, etc). Speaking of Bill’s, later that night was the inaugural monthly D.I.L.F (Daddies I’d like to F*#k) party and was a huge success. If you missed it, fret not as you can check it out every 2nd Saturday of the month. Afterwards, it was on to Boom for their 12th anniversary party starring their house queen, the one and only Latrice Royale who performed along with some friends. Congrats to Tim, Craig, Chris and the entire staff on 12 years.  Wishing Boom many more years of success! In Miami, Score featured the sexy DJ Paulo behind the turntables and Discotekka celebrated the birthday of their newly crowned Mr. Discotekka Victor  Manuel with a blow out party. Sunday was the annual Check presentation for the Smart Ride, and if I am not mistaken, this is the largest AIDS fundraiser in the state of Florida with over $880,000 raised. This is HOT

Gayby, winner of 16 LGBT film festival awards and counting — and nominated for the Independent Spirit Award Best First Screenplay Award! Handsome Broadway actor Matthew Wilkas (“Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark”) co-stars with the hilarious Jenn Harris as a gay guy named Matt and his straight best friend Jenn who decide to have a baby together — the old-fashioned way! While yoga teacher Jenn copes with her co-workers (including her gay best pal Jack Ferver, Strangers with Candy); in his attempt to get over his ex-boyfriend, comic book artist Matt falls for a Clark Kent lookalike (Green Lantern’s Mike Doyle). Meanwhile, Matt’s flaming best friend Nelson provides hilarious ongoing commentary (a great comic performance by writer-director Jonathan Lisecki). The film’s top-notch cast also includes Adam Driver and Alex Karpovsky (Girls), Dule Hill (Psych), Sarita Choudhury (Homeland), Tommy Heleringer (The Outs web series), Charlie Barnett (NBC’s Chicago Fire) and stage veteran Louis Cancelmi. Hilarious, sexy, wacky and romantic, this perfectly told New York tale from writer-director-star Jonathan Lisecki follows the travails of Jenn and Matt all the way to one of the happiest happy endings you’ve ever seen. This movie is 89 minutes in length, is not rated and is available at Wolfe.com for only $19.95
