Food For Thought: Treat Yourself To Tropics Restaurant And Piano Bar

Last Thursday, my dining/life companion J and I dined at Tropics Restaurant & Piano Bar.  We both had just gotten off of I-95 during rush hour and were instantly put at ease as soon as we entered this warm and friendly establishment. Last Thursday, my dining/life companion J and I dined at Tropics Restaurant & Piano Bar.  We both had just gotten off of I-95 during rush hour and were instantly put at ease as soon as we entered this warm and friendly establishment. We sat in a booth in the center section of this large restaurant and were impressed that there was a full house.

Our server, Scott, had some great suggestions for us. After digging into a basket of warm rolls and butter, we snacked on a Jumbo Shrimp Cocktail ($13). Served in a martini glass, the shrimp were indeed jumbo and set the perfect tone for a great meal.

Scott told us about Tropics’ amazing homemade soups and J and I decided to each sample a favorite. I ordered the French Onion Au Gratin Soup ($6) which was covered with a melted cap of Provolone. My favorite part of this soup was the large crouton that was all mixed up in the cheese and the delicious broth. J ordered the Lobster Bisque ($8) which was creamy perfection swimming with chunks of fabulous, tender lobster.

Carnivorous J ordered the Rosemary Roasted Prime Rib of Beef, which comes in two sizes—10 oz. for $22 and 14 oz. for $28. The tender beef came with a side of creamy horseradish dipping sauce, your choice of roasted potatoes or rice pilaf and veggies. Juicy and delectable, I highly recommend that you treat yourself to this phenomenal slab of meaty goodness ASAP.

I went with the Stuffed Flounder ($19), which Scott highly recommended. Perfectly cooked, the flounder was stuffed with tasty crabmeat. The side of rice pilaf had peas and sliced mushrooms in it, which to me, gave it a very warm, home-cooked quality.

Tropics offers wonderful Daily Specials and on the evening we were there, they were offering Thursday Night Family Style Dinners for Two for $30, which featured many seafood and Italian dishes to choose from.  The Family Style meals include tossed salad or soup. Some of the other specials include Sunday Brunch and a Sunday Evening Buffet, Ten Entrée Choices for $14 on Mondays, Tuesday Two For One Entrees and Wednesday Prime Time Prime Rib $15 for an 8 oz. cut. Their regular menu is always available on these nights.

For those who are looking for something lighter, Tropics offers sandwiches and light fare at the bar, where there is nightly entertainment. Happy Hour specials are also offered.

This Wilton Manors mainstay impressed us with its attractive interior, large portions at great prices, and just really, good food. Everything we ordered seemed to have a special personal touch to it which didn’t go unnoticed. It’s not an accident that this local favorite has been around for a while. Come by and see why.
