South Florida Symphony Orchestra Presents “Starry Night, All in White”

The South Florida Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of conductor Sebrina Maria Alfonso, will be presenting two special evenings that will combine beautiful music, unique culinary experiences, and the recognition of two of the Symphony Orchestra’s key benefactors.

The evenings, called “Starry Night, All in White,” will be presented on Sunday, January 4 in Fort Lauderdale and Tuesday, January 6 in Key West. Both events will start at 5 p.m. At both of these events, attendees are asked to wear white. “Your table and attire now dressed in white / We’ll serve you a symphony of culinary delights,” the event invitation’s poem reads. While seated at dinner, the South Florida Symphony Orchestra’s Blue Door String Quartet will perform a special two-cello quintet by Franz Schubert. Guest cellist Garo Yellin, formerly of the group The Ordinaires, and who has performed with the group They Might Be Giants, will join the Blue Door String Quartet on these two evenings.

The Sunday, January 4 concert date will be held at Hyatt Regency Pier Sixty-Six’s pier top in Fort Lauderdale. Hosted by Lewis and Raquel Cohen, this event will feature an award given by Beth Holland to Dr. Kenneth Stevenson. Dr. Stevenson, who now owns his own fundraising and consulting company, used to work for the Broward College Foundation for twelve years from 2001-13.

The Tuesday, January 6 concert date will be held at the Marriott Beachside Hotel in Key West. Hosted by Robert and Elena Spottswood, this concert date will feature an award given by Dr. Shirley Freeman to Marilynn Weber. Marilynn Weber, a former music teacher and longtime patron of the arts, has helped raise money to bring the South Florida Symphony Orchestra to teach children about music in elementary schools across Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties.
