National Pride March is on!

The LGBT community is planning a massive march on Washington DC that will take place during DC Pride Weekend and thousands of people are already committing to help make this one of the biggest movements in our community’s history.

According to the Washington Blade, the idea for the march was conceived by David Bruinooge from Brooklyn, NY after the recent Women’s March was more successful than expected with an estimated 1.2 million of people taking over the capital city and millions more coming together all across the globe to stand up in solidarity. Bruinooge told the Blade, “I was watching the events unfold on TV and I was very proud and inspired by all the women, the strong women in our country who were kind of taking this to the street and getting their voices heard. And in the back of my mind as an openly gay man I thought the gay community should be doing something like this to follow up on the momentum.”

Since creating a Facebook event page for the National Pride March on Saturday, January 21 (the day of the Women’s March) the page has received more than 13,000 likes and has just as many people interested in going to the march. Organizers are promising to work with Capital Pride Alliance, the organization that puts on DC Pride. While details about the march are sparse as of now, they will be forthcoming once the organization begins to take shape.

Are you planning on going? Would you like to see “sister marches” across the country that would mirror the message of the National Equality March? If you are interested in getting involved with a Pride Organization locally, you can find more information on Mark’s List business directory by searching “Pride”.
