This is HOT

The very first Gay books I read when I came out was Armistead Maupin’s “Tales of the City” and its sequels. I felt transported to Barbary Lane and felt like I was friends with all the characters. In 1993 they made a mini-series of the books which among many honors received a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Limited Series.

In 2017 I loved watching the movie “The Untold Tales of Armistead Maupin,” which was a documentary all about his life.

Can you imagine how excited I was when I read that Netflix Original Limited Series announced “Armistead Maupin’s Tales of the City” begins a new chapter in the beloved story. Mary Ann (Laura Linney) returns to present-day San Francisco and is reunited with her daughter Shawna (Ellen Page) and ex-husband Brian (Paul Gross), twenty years after leaving them behind to pursue her career.  Fleeing the midlife crisis that her picture-perfect Connecticut life created, Mary Ann is quickly drawn back into the orbit of Anna Madrigal (Olympia Dukakis), her chosen family and a new generation of queer young residents living at 28 Barbary Lane.

Season 1 premieres on Netflix on Friday, Coming June 7.
