Miami,) is thrilled to present Jean P Jam Haitian Project at 8pm, as part of its monthly “Jazz at MOCA” series in celebration of Haitian Heritage Month. Jean Almatas (“Pokito”), born and raised in Haiti, is a talented singer and songwriter who brings deeply rooted music and expands what we know as “world music.” He calls his music “Rootsy Juicy.” This event is free and open to the public.

The Lake Worth Playhouse invites all interested to sign up for their Adult Beginning Acting Class Taught by Daniel Eilola on Wednesdays from 5:30-7pm. The class runs from June 5 through July 24 (8 weeks), and 18 and up are welcome and the cost is $225. This class introduces students to acting for the stage through improv, scene study and monologue preparation. This 10-week class is designed to focus on the fundamentals of the craft. The very first Gay books I read when I came out was Armistead Maupin’s “Tales of the City” and its sequels. I felt transported to Barbary Lane and felt like I was friends with all the characters. In 1993 they made a mini-series of the books which among many honors received a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Limited Series.
In 2017 I loved watching the movie “The Untold Tales of Armistead Maupin,” which was a documentary all about his life.
Can you imagine how excited I was when I read that Netflix Original Limited Series announced “Armistead Maupin’s Tales of the City” begins a new chapter in the beloved story. Mary Ann (Laura Linney) returns to present-day San Francisco and is reunited with her daughter Shawna (Ellen Page) and ex-husband Brian (Paul Gross), twenty years after leaving them behind to pursue her career. Fleeing the midlife crisis that her picture-perfect Connecticut life created, Mary Ann is quickly drawn back into the orbit of Anna Madrigal (Olympia Dukakis), her chosen family and a new generation of queer young residents living at 28 Barbary Lane.
Season 1 premieres on Netflix on Friday, Coming June 7.
