Dear Andreus,
I have been with my boyfriend for almost a year. Lately, we have been talking about the idea of marriage. He introduced the topic of having a prenup, and it made me uncomfortable. I love him, so I don’t see the need for one. I don’t know how to feel about this. Please help.
Sincerely,
Gregory R.
Dear Gregory,
There are a variety of reasons why people have prenups. I would suggest that you discuss with your boyfriend why he feels the need to have one, but not confuse his need to have a prenup with his feelings for you. As we know, relationships and marriages do not always work. It is perfectly fine, and completely with the rights of an individual, to want to safeguard themselves against any and all possibilities. Maybe you can agree on specific terms of the prenup that would make both of you comfortable.
My boyfriend has been talking about moving in together. We have only been dating for a few months, and I am concerned that this maybe happening too fast. Is there a thing as moving in too fast?
Sincerely,
Raul M.
Dear Raul,
There is no absolute answer to your question, because the idea of what is too fast or too slow can be completely different from person to person. In other words, for you it could be too fast, but for your boyfriend it might feel right. I suggest that you sit down and talk about your concerns, where your relationship is, and where you expect things to go. Maybe you can set a time frame in which to revisit the topic to see if you are any more or less comfortable in the future.
