Canada’s Drag Race Episode 6- Boa
In Episode 6 of Canada’s Drag Race Jeffrey comes in and tells the girls that for this week’s mini challenge they will be feeling their Star 69 fantasies as a Psychic Hotline operator for Hoe Hoe’s Astro Alliance. They will be picking up the phone for a mystery caller, and they have 20 minutes to get into quick drag. The girl who entertains Jeffrey and the mystery caller the most will be the winner. They were provided make-up by Anastasia Beverly Hills. The mystery caller was Crystal from RuPaul’s Drag Race UK. The winner was Lemon and she wins $1,000 of stylish eyewear from Bailey Nelson.
For the Maxi challenge they will be getting downright judicial in their very own late-night law firm TV commercial. Working in teams they will be creating ads to promote their legal services to other drag queens. As this week’s Mini Challenge winner Lemon get to choose the teams. The teams are:
Lemon and Priyanka
Scarlett and Ilona
Rita, Jimbo and Boa
This week’s guest host is Tom Green and the runway look is: Canadian Tuxedo: Denim on Denim on denim. The winner this week is Rita Baga and she wins a custom designed wardrobe worth $10,000 from North Bound Leather. The bottom 2 are Ilona and Boa and in the end Boa sashays away. It was a pleasure to sit down with Boa for this Hotspots exclusive interview:
At what age did drag become an interest and how did you pick your name?
It became an interest at about 18 or 19 years old. I was working a job I hated, and I was going out a lot. I had dreams about doing drag and then started playing with make-up and getting a gig here or there and it grew and then I walked in to the work room…LOL!
At first picking my name was difficult. However, my last name is Boa and everyone called me Boa, so I said why not use Boa. Once I decided to use that name a girlfriend of mine said BOA stands for: Bitch on arrival
How excited were you when you heard Drag Race was coming to Canada and how did you feel when you found out you were chosen?
I wasn’t excited at first as I was stressed as I though, now I have to apply for this…LOL! When they told me I was chosen I was over the moon. I almost didn’t think it was real.
How did you prepare to go on Drag Race?
I turned my apartment inside out sewing outfits and took some dance lessons from a close friend who is a dance teacher. I also did a lot of shopping.
How hard was it to keep the secret that you are on Canada’s Drag Race?
It wasn’t that hard, as I am really good at keeping a secret. However, even though I never confirmed it a lot of people knew as 5 Toronto girls went missing for weeks…LOL!
Tell me about your Drag Race experience?
My experience was great. I met amazing people and I made lifelong friendships. It was so stressful, but it was so good to. It was really an incredibly positive experience.
I feel like you didn’t try as hard as you could in the Lip Sync for your life, am I wrong?
No, you are not wrong. Something snapped on my wing and I had to hold it and I had to stand there for so long during the critique that I was in a lot of pain. Also, my shoes were very painful, and I was kind of out of it. In addition to all of that, I wasn’t a very big fan of the song
Now that you have been eliminated, is there anything you would have done different?
I would have worn much more comfortable shoes.
I’m so glad you did, but what gave you the courage to talk about the time you were beaten up by a trick?
When I was assaulted, I went public about it and I got so much support from my Toronto community, it was really uplifting, and it made me feel loved and supported. I wanted to use this Drag Race platform to help anyone I can.
What’s your marital status?
I am with my partner, his name is Conner, and he helps me with a lot of my drag. We have been together for 5 years. I love him so much, he is my best friend, and we have a dog together.
What’s Ahead for Boa?
I think the future hold lots of Lasagna. I also want to tour and get out there and meet all the people. I want to perform, as I miss performing, and I also want to come out with music. I want to do it all.
