Hair Removal 101

Nothing is wrong with being hairy, but for those who prefer a smoother look, there are several options. Each has its pros and cons, but you are the only one who will know which is best for you.

Razors, back shavers

Shaving is the easiest and cheapest way to remove hair. The only negative? Ingrown hairs, which can be extra uncomfortable in some areas. If you want to banish your hairy back, there are a variety of back shavers out there, with long handles and wider razors, which make the process easier.

Wax

Although painful, results from waxing can last up to 6 weeks. It’s best to get waxed by a professional, although there are several products for at-home waxing. Waxes stick to your hair — not your skin. It is applied to the hairy area and covered with a cloth. Then the cloth is pulled away, removing the hair. Waxing is best for smaller areas, like eyebrows, ears, neck and armpits. You can wax your pubes, but be prepared for the pain.

Laser

One of the more expensive treatments, laser hair removal is a permanent way to de-fuzz — although sometimes touch ups are needed. A laser light is used to destroy the hair follicle.

It can take around 8 appointments to get the smoothness you are looking for, but in the end, this process can help you save a lot of time.

Electrolysis

Like laser hair removal, electrolysis is also a permanent hair removal solution. A needle is used to penetrate and shock the hair follicle, causing hair to stop growing. Depending on the amount of hair you want removed, the process can take up to a year.

Sugaring

Sugaring is similar to waxing. A sugar paste removes hair at the root. It is supposed to be a gentler and more natural way to remove hair. Like waxing, itt can be done on any area of the body.

Depilatory creams

Depilatory creams, like Nair, etc., are a cheap and easy way to remove hair. They work very quickly and are typically painless, unless your skin is sensitive. Creams have a very strong odor and some are made for different parts of your body, so choose wisely.
