June Jambalaya

Episode 3 of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” Season 14 opens with Alisha Keys coming back in the mirror and points and tells the girls to look over there, and the other 6 girls from the first episode come in. The next day they walk into the work room and then Ru comes in and informs them that there are 2 more girls…Orion and Daya are back. Ru then goes on to tell the girls that from now on when it comes to saving Queens, she is leaving it up to the Drag Gods. The Pit Crew bring in 12 candy bars and each queen gets to pick a bar. Every week the queen who is eliminated will open their bar, and if it’s the golden bar they are saved. If not, they sashay away.

Ru then explains to the girls that for this week’s maxi challenge she is throwing two balls. The week one queens will be serving it for the Hide & Sheek Ball with three looks: Zebra Print Resort, Leopard Evening Gown Down and the third look from scratch is Wedding Gown Eleganza. Week Two Queens will be serving it for the Red White and Blue Ball with three looks: Red Hot Resort, Evening Gown Down all in White, and the third look from scratch is Wedding Gown Eleganza in Red, White and Blue.

The week’s special guest judge joining Ru, Michelle and Carson is Christine Chiu of Bling Empire.

The winner of the ball and the $5,000 prize is Willow Pill, and the bottom two are June Jambalaya and Maddy Morphosis, with June sashaying away.

It was a pleasure to sit down with June for this exclusive Hotspots interview:

Q: At what age did drag become an interest for you and how did you pick your name?

I’ve always loved drag but moving to LA, I started choreographing for drag queens and that really increased my interest.

Q: How excited were you when you got the call that you were cast, and what was the first thing you did?

It was a life-changing opportunity, and I knew that my life would never be the same.

Q. How hard was it to keep the secret that you were on “Drag Race”?

It was very difficult because you have a limited time to put all these looks together and limited resources made it difficult, but I’m so thankful for my family and friends that helped me.

Q: Tell us about your “RuPaul’s Drag Race” Season 14 experience?

It was short-lived but I enjoyed every moment of it, and I hope brands got a taste of what this Jambalaya has to give.

Q. Did you feel additional pressure on this challenge since you are a fashion stylist?

I did – I always feel pressure and consider myself to be fashion knowledgeable in wanting to showcase loving your body and not being sample size so I think that really took over me mentally this challenge.

Q. Is there something you wish you had done differently?

Honestly, I wish I wouldn’t have stayed in my head and focused on the details, and I think I would’ve had a different outcome this season.

Q. Who are you closest with from the cast?

I knew Korn before the show because we went to college together so after this experience our relationship has just increased even more, but honestly, I’m close to all of these girls.

Q: What’s your marital status?

I am single and actively looking for a husband.

Q: What’s ahead for June?

I want to continue to push content and be creative and showcase my love for plus size fashion.
