New Survey Shows Record Numbers ‘Coming Out’

A recent Gallup poll shows that the number of U.S. adults who identify as something other than straight has more than doubled in the past 10 years. Gallup found that the increase is due to ”high LGBT self-identification, particularly as bisexual, among Generation Z adults.”

Gen Z adults are the ones between 18 and 25 years old. It asked more than 12,000 U.S. adults how they identify during telephone interviews last year. It found that younger U.S. adults are much more likely to identify as LGBTQ than older generations. 1 in 5, or 21% of Gen Z adults identify as LGBTQ. That’s double the 10.5% that Millennials, or those between 26 and 41 reported. Only 4.2% of Gen X adults, or those between 42 and 57, reported being LGBTQ.
