It was a pleasure to sit down with Belinda for this exclusive Hotspots interview:

How did singing begin for you or did you come out of the womb singing?

I came out of the womb singing. As far back as I can remember I would wake up singing.

When did Whitney and her music become important to you?

When I was 8 years old, the first time I heard her. I realized at that age I could sing just like her. It was the connection to my dreams.

What was your first professional gig?

I remember my first band I performed with was a jazz band and they were called “Maiden Voyage.” I was 14 or 15 and over the weekend I earned 60 rand (equivalent of $5 US Dollars). At the time I thought that was a lot of money.

When did you know singing would be your career?

When I left the country for the first time when I was in my early 20’s. It was the first contract I signed, and it was for a hotel in Hong Kong. That’s when I decided I must take care of myself and my voice as this is something that is going to carry me for the rest of my life.

You travel around the world; do you have a favorite city or venue?

There are so many that stand out, but the first one that popped into my head is the London Palladium. I performed there the week before Madonna was supposed to play there and I had a sold-out show. The other one is the Apollo in NYC. Those are my two favorites.

Do you have a favorite Whitney song and why?

I don’t have a favorite, but on the album “I’m Your Baby Tonight” there is a song called “Lover for Life” and I can listen to that song all the time. I also love  “Just the Lonely Talking Again,” and “Heartbreak Hotel,” and then there are so many more. I just can’t decide.

Tell me about your experience on Britain’s Got talent?

One of the most surreal experiences of my life as it was during the pandemic. The rules and protocol were incredible. The audition was great, and it was really nerve wrecking. Becoming a semi finalist was insane.

Describe yourself in 3 words?

Homey, perfectionist, and chef.

What do you do for fun?

I love to run long distance; I also love to swim, and I love the ocean. Because I travel so much, I try to do these things when I am home. I am also a big foodie! My new hobby is my puppy Golden Retriever.

What should our readers expect from “The Greatest Love of All?”

If there is one thing that people need to know, this is not a musical. It’s a concert as if Whitney was on stage. We managed to pick songs from the number one hits from the beginning to the end of her career, and I promise everyone will have fun in this show. My whole point of doing this show is to take people back to when they first heard Whitney. I am paying tribute to my idol!
