Lesbians Have More Orgasms Than Straight Women. Clue: It’s about Men

A recent study published in the Journal of Social Psychological and Personality Science has revealed intriguing findings about orgasm frequency among women of different sexual orientations. The study surveyed lesbian and straight women, as well as bisexual women. Results showed that while both lesbians and straight women value orgasms equally, lesbians reported experiencing more clitoral stimulation and overall orgasms during intercourse. Similarly, bisexual women placed equal importance on orgasms regardless of their partner’s gender, yet those with female partners reported higher stimulation and orgasm expectations compared to those with male partners. Researchers suggested that media portrayal has a big role to play in these findings, as sex scenes frequently prioritize male pleasure. Female pleasure is often overshadowed by a focus on vaginal penetration by men, and it usually concludes upon the man’s orgasm. Grace Wetzel, one of the study’s authors, told NBC News the surveys of both groups indicate that the orgasm gap between men and women is not inherently biological. Wetzel further suggested that women might find it easier to communicate their desires to other women than to men. She emphasized that the pressure to achieve orgasm can detract from sexual enjoyment. Wetzel recommended that couples, irrespective of gender, should prioritize making their sexual experiences more pleasurable overall by indulging in sex acts that are likely to lead to orgasm for their partner.
