Evan Low, former California Assembly member and congressional candidate, has been named president and CEO of the LGBTQ+ Victory Fund and Institute. He succeeds Annise Parker, the former Houston mayor, who announced her planned departure earlier this year. Parker stayed on while the search for a new leader was conducted. In the press release issued, Low said,
“Today, we face an existential crisis. The LGBTQ+ community is being systematically legislated out of existence. I am committed to ensuring our voices are not just included but impossible to ignore.”
The Victory Fund works to elect openly queer candidates, while the Institute trains them for public office. Joseph Falk, Victory Fund’s board chair, expressed about the new appointment, “We’re confident that Low will help elect more LGBTQ+ leaders and ensure they have the tools to serve.”
Low, a 41-year-old gay man, has an extensive political background. He was the youngest Asian American elected to the California Assembly in 2014.
