In an article for Rage Monthly, California psychotherapist Michael Kimmel answers a common question from clients reentering the dating world: Is sex a good way to judge boyfriend potential? A Palm Springs reader wrote, “I think that having sex with a guy is a good way to ‘screen him.’” But Kimmel cautions that “making sex the most important element in a potential partner screening system rarely works.” He explains that for many couples, sex got even better as they got to know and trust each other. Kimmel urges readers to be honest about what they really want. He says, “If what you really want is just to have fun, then go to it…but know what you’re truly seeking.”
