The Pentagon is taking aim at Netflix for what it calls “woke garbage” following the release of Boots, a queer military drama. Press secretary Kingsley Wilson told Entertainment Weekly the Defense Department doesn’t support the show, claiming it pushes an “ideological agenda.” Boots stars Miles Heizer as a closeted teen joining the Marines in 1990, when being gay in the military was still illegal. Wilson said, “Our standards are elite, uniform, and sex neutral… the weight of a rucksack doesn’t care if you’re gay or straight.” All episodes of Boots are now streaming on Netflix.
