Across the country, LGBTQ+ communities continue to grow — and they’re not just found in pricey cities like San Francisco or New York. Coming in at number ten is Ferndale in Detroit, Michigan, with a median home price of $287,000. Ferndale has been a queer hub since the 1980s, hosting Motor City Pride since 2001.
It also elected the state’s first out gay mayor in 2007 and is home to the Affirmations LGBTQ+ community center. At $266,000, The Grove in St. Louis, Missouri, is known for its nightlife, LGBTQ+ bars, eclectic restaurants, and the first-in-the-nation Transgender Memorial Garden. Minneapolis claims two spots: Uptown, at $232,000, celebrated for its arts scene and venues like the Granada, and Loring Park, at $225,000, home to Twin Cities Pride, the Minneapolis Convention Center, and the Basilica of St. Mary. Midtown Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, and Atlantic City, New Jersey, are tied at $215,000.
Midtown is known for its queer population and the massive Midtown Scholar Bookstore, while Atlantic City hosts the iconic Miss’d America Pageant and numerous music festivals.
