What’s Hot Nov 19th 2009

Last Thursday Sidelines Sport Bar for the first time closed its doors for 2 hours (6 to 8 pm) to host a benefit for the Smart Ride. 100% of the admission went to the benefit and included an open bar and an open buffet. Even the bartenders donated all their tips. We here at Hotspots would like to congratulate Marty, Laurie and Jennifer as well as the entire Sidelines staff on such a well attended and successful benefit. Friday I headed down to Miami where I attended 3 events. The first was GLAADs TGIF presented by Absolut and held poolside at the Eden Roc.

Friday I headed down to Miami where I attended 3 events. The first was GLAADs TGIF presented by Absolut and held poolside at the Eden Roc. The event was a benefit for GLAAD and was hosted by HGTV’s hottie David Bromstad. I then headed over to Edison Farrow’s Galaxy Fridays at Casale. The night starred DJ Miik and was packed with Miami VIPs and lots of cuties. After Galaxy I headed to Twist for their Fetish the 13th Blackout Party starring Misty Eyez and her video stars. As usual, all the rooms in Twist were packed and there was definitely some interesting fetish attire. A special shout out to dance manager Jerry, who is looking hot as ever! Sunday night was the annual Equality Florida Broward Gala held at the Museum of Art. I was so impressed and reinvigorated by the incredible turnout that this important organization’s gala had. The special guest speaker was Alex Sink, Florida’s CFO and candidate for governor, who was Equality Florida’s 2009 Voice for Equality Award winner. In addition, it was the opening weekend for “American Chronicles, the Art of Norman Rockwell” at the museum and it is amazing. The attention to detail Mr. Rockwell had makes this a must see!

Multiple Grammy Award-winning singer and songwriter Norah Jones has announced the title and release date of her upcoming album, “The Fall,” her fourth studio album was released by EMI’s Blue Note Records on November 17th. Her breakout album “Come Away With Me” is one of the first albums to be released in the iTunes LP format, a new feature of iTunes 9 that reinvents the visual experience of the record album through live performance videos, lyrics, artwork, liner notes, interviews, photos, album credits and more. After being introduced by Apple CEO Steve Jobs, Jones performed “Come Away With Me” and also debuted “Young Blood,” a new song from “The Fall.” Jones has taken a new direction on the “The Fall,” experimenting with different sounds and a new set of collaborators, including Jacquire King, a noted producer and engineer who has worked with Kings of Leon, Tom Waits and Modest Mouse among others. Jones enlisted several songwriting collaborators, including Ryan Adams and Okkervil River’s Will Sheff, as well as her frequent partner Jesse Harris. King also helped Jones put together a new group of musicians to perform on the album, including drummers Joey Waronker (Beck, R.E.M.) and James Gadson (Bill Withers), keyboardist James Poyser (Erykah Badu, Al Green), and guitarists Marc Ribot (Tom Waits, Elvis Costello) and Smokey Hormel (Johnny Cash, Joe Strummer). Since coming on the scene in 2002, Jones has sold a collective 36 million albums worldwide. Her three studio albums, 2002’s eight-time Grammy Award-winning “Come Away With Me,” 2004’s “Feels Like Home,” and 2007’s “Not Too Late” have each topped the Billboard top 200 album charts in the U.S. and gone to No. 1 around the world.
