Hot Stuff

The National Gay and Lesbian Task Force announced today that the 2011 Winter Party Festival, originally scheduled for March 9-13, will now be rescheduled for March 2-7. “The change in date was deemed necessary following Winter Music Conference’s announcement last Tuesday that it had scheduled its 2011 event on dates that overlapped Winter Party. We have been publicizing the dates of the 2011 Festival since March,” said Russell Roybal, deputy executive director of external relations at the Task Force, “so the last thing we wanted to do was move the dates and inconvenience our guests who have already started to make their plans. However, we had more than one venue pull out of the Festival to be a part of Winter Music Conference, and we got word that the room rates at South Beach hotels were starting to skyrocket. We quickly realized that there was no way we could guarantee our guests the magical experience they expect from Winter Party Festival if Winter Music Conference was happening at the same time.”

Nice Jewish Girls Gone Bad is a refreshing mix of comedy, music, spoken-word and show-stopping burlesque, featuring the gals who learned to smoke at Hebrew School, got drunk at their Bat-Mitzvahs and would rather have more schtuppa than the chupah, featuring performers seen on Comedy Central, HBO and Late Night TV. These badass chosen chicks boldly dare to deconstruct years of tradition, expectations and guilt in a fast-paced vaudeville extravaganza. It’s ain’t yo’ mama’s Fiddler! After cruising the US for 6 years, last year Nice Jewish Girls Gone Bad opened at The Zipper Theater in NYC with a brand new show which received rave reviews. The show will be playing in South Florida on Sunday, December 5th at 8 pm at Turn Off The TV Theater (129 N Federal Hwy, Lake Worth – 561-354-5557), on Monday Dec. 6th at 8 pm at Stage 84 (9118 West State Road 84, Ft Laud – 954-474-5040?), on Tuesday Dec. 7th at 8 pm at Funky Buddha Lounge & Brewery (2621 North Federal Highway, Boca – 561 368-4643), and on Wednesday Dec. 8th at 8 pm at Next (137 NE 19th St.- 305- 542-7732).

The City of North Miami was among the first to offer health benefits to the domestic partners of city employees. Now, they’re at the forefront of GLBT coverage again. At their November 23rd meeting, by a unanimous vote, the City Council allowed for city employees to take sick leave while caring for a sick domestic partner. New rules also allow for domestic partner bereavement leave. Kudos to North Miami!

The Original Condom Company, announced the debut of their much anticipated new product line named “The Original Condom.” France being synonymous with romance and sensuality, two French Aristocrats have introduced the sexy new product line to the US and have managed to bring an unsurpassed level of class and elegance to the boudoir with their exclusive and breathtaking latex condom packaging. The Original Condom recognizably differentiates itself from many household name condom brands with a package design in which you would normally expect to open and find a pair of diamond earrings, cufflinks or high end luxury gift item. The ingenuity behind the trendy condom packaging is to remove all embarrassment from the safe sex process. While other standard latex condom brands are left within the night table drawer, the chic new Original Condom packaging is designed to be displayed on the night stand. “Our condoms are a must have and truly combine luxury with lifestyle,” stated Count Gil de Bizemont. The Original Condom comes in black boxes with gold lettering that have been lined inside with black velvet. Shoppers may choose from The Pocket (3 condoms), priced at $13.50, to The Regular (box of six, priced at $20), and the refill of 12 priced at $24. New designs for the luxury latex condoms are currently being developed such as sexy pink boxes with black lace trim for next season. The condoms have been put through a rigorous quality standard testing process from pin hole tests, to air burst, electronic water, aging, and water leakage tests all to ensure that the public is receiving the finest quality condom on the market today. The new luxury condom manufacturer is also majorly committed to giving back through not only Humanitarian contributions to HIV and AIDS not-for profits worldwide, but are also committed to providing protection to our planet making all attempts to reduce their carbon emissions during the manufacturing process and have organized the carbon offsetting of all products. To find out where to purchase these condoms or for more information go to TheOriginalCondom.com

Tuesday was what we call in the event going business a trifecta. It was a pleasure to be invited to the swearing in ceremony of Wilton Manors Mayor Gary Resnick and all the commissioners. The event was held inside the main hall at Hagen Park and was catered by Alibi Catering. Congratulations to Mayor Resnick, Scott Newton and all the other commissioners. Afterwards I headed over to McSorley’s on the beach for the monthly Fort Lauderdale Mack Mixer, which once again was packed. From there I was off to The Manor Complex for the 1st annual employee Turn-A-Bout night which was a benefit for AIDS Healthcare Foundation. Much needed money was raised for AHF and one lucky employee, Monica Inferno (Harry), won the $100 prize for best performance in drag. To launch the new AlandChuck.travel, Legendary Journeys invited all gay media in Florida on a 3 day complimentary cruise aboard the MSC Poesia. While enjoying all the amenities the boat had to offer it was so much fun getting to know the other gay media in Florida and the staff of Legendary Journeys, who by the way were very attentive to all our needs. Check them out at either LegendaryJourneys.com or AlandChuck.travel. Sunday night was the annual Equality Florida Broward gala, which for the 3rd year in a row was held at the Museum of Art Fort Lauderdale. Once again the gala was packed with over 300 community members that wanted to honor and support the important work that Equality Florida does locally and across the state. Congratulations to Martin Gill who was the 2010 Voice for Equality Award winner. His speech, which told the struggle of adopting his 2 boys and getting the ban against gay adoption lifted in the state of Florida, brought tears to my eyes. This was a wonderful event!
