Phoenix
Contestant from RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 3

The second eliminated contestant to sashay away on LOGO TVs RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 3 is Atlanta’s own Phoenix. Here is what Phoenix had to say.

1) At what age did female impersonation become an interest?
I have been doing it for 10 years since I was 20. However, I have always been into it since I was very young. I remember seeing a pic of RuPaul and I was fascinated by it.

2) How did you pick your name?
I think it’s just perfect for the type of drag I do as the Phoenix rises from the ashes and recreates itself. I am always recreating my look. Some entertainers get stuck in a box and are afraid to step out. I love stepping out and pushing myself to the next level. I also have a fiery personality, so it goes hand and hand.

3) How did you go about getting on RuPau’s Drag Race. Tell me about the experience?
It was a long audition process from online application to the video submission. It is very stressful as I had to go through many steps to get on the show. Every time I got a call from Viacom my chest would explode. I couldn’t wait to just find out. I was so happy when they said “pack your bags.”

It was just that, an experience. You are put on a TV show with girls that are great in their geographic area, so we all have a bit of an attitude. The stress of the competition is definitely a recipe for drama, but a lot of good also!

4) Who do you want to win?
I totally saw Raja as competition as I know her for years and know what she is capable of. She is more than just a pretty face; she has the talent to back it up. So I hope she wins.

5) Tell me about the man behind Phoenix?
I am definitely a creative person as this is my art. I am a very nice and sincere person and easy to get along with. All around I am a good guy, but my worst critic.

6) Tell me something people would be surprised to know about you?
That I am very shy, because the Phoenix persona is so opposite of that. When I tell people I am shy, they can’t believe it.

7) What’s ahead for Phoenix?
All kinds of things; my fabulous manager is working on my tours all over the country. I have also been speaking to a few music producers who love my look and want to do projects together. You can possibly see a single from me in the near future.

I am thankful for RuPaul’s Drag Race for giving me a stepping stone that has opened a lot of doors to me to make my dreams come true.
