Miami Beach Pride is the largest one day event on The Beach and one that you won’t want to miss. Last year, more than 35,000 people from all over the world descended upon the city to celebrate this momentous occasion.

Miami Beach Gay Pride brings together members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community, their friends, allies, and supporters in celebration of the unique spirit and culture of the GLBT community. Established by Miami Beach Mayor Matti Bower as an initiative of the Miami Beach Gay Business Development Council, Miami Beach Gay Pride is a not-for-profit organization that produces free events that are open to all, and include the Parade, Festival, Expo, and officially sanctioned Miami Beach Gay Pride events.

This year, the event will take place on Saturday, April 16 on Ocean Drive from noon to 8 p.m. The exciting, free, all-day event features a parade and a Festival with exciting celebrity presentations and musical performances, GLBT-friendly vendors and businesses, refreshments and food, and a family-friendly play zone. Leading up to the event, there is a full schedule of special events, including the Leaders, Legends and Lovelies Ball on April 14; Mova’s Block Party on April 15; Miss Richfield performance at Colony Theatre on April 15; URGE, the official Saturday Night Pride Party at Ice Palace Studios West on April 16; and a Pride at Sea Cruise after the event on April 18.

One of the biggest draws on the day of the festival is the parade, which this year, will be led by Bravo’s Andy Cohen. Stars seem to flock to the parade, which last year was led by Lt. Dan Choi and Sharon Gless, and the year before by Patti LaBelle and Richie Rich. The adorable Cohen, who is Bravo’s Executive Vice President of Original Programming and Development and host and Executive Producer of “Watch What Happens,” Bravo’s late night, weekly talk show, has quite the following. In February, he teamed up with British rugby player Ben Cohen to film a video for the It Gets Better Project, offering a message about acceptance and celebrating differences.

The colorful parade will feature bold and bright floats featuring community leaders and businesses, Miami Beach Mayor Matti Bower and the LEGACY group, which features GLBT couples who have 20+ loving years together.

Cohen will lead the Miami Beach Gay Pride Parade beginning at noon on April 16th at 5th Street and Ocean Drive. The parade will continue along Ocean Drive. Following the parade, the festivities continue at Lummus Park, between 10th Street and 14th Street, with exciting musical performances, and the festival.

The event has put Miami Beach on the map with other big cities like Sao Paulo, San Francisco, New York, Chicago, and Madrid that officially honor the GLBT community by hosting a city-supported pride event. Make sure to come out, make new friends and celebrate your pride!
