Last week, on Wednesday, there were 2 events. The first was the grand opening of my hairdresser, and community member, Wah’s, Salon Bromo on Commercial Blvd. Congrats to Wah and his entire staff. Later that night, Discotekka presented the first annual Miss & Mr. Discotekka Pageant. There were 4 Mr. Contestants and 5 Miss Contestants, but in the end the winners were Sasha Lords (sick contemporary dance talent) and Victor Manuel. I was personally honored to receive the first ever Milancita Award of Excellence for my support of female impersonation and the arts. I am rarely surprised, but I was totally shocked and taken aback by this honor. I would like to thank my friends at Discotekka (Alyson, Vegas, Joe and Danny) and of course the one and only Milancita for choosing me for this honor (and for putting on a fabulous pageant.) Thursday was a very busy day as well. In the morning, Hotspots’ owner, Peter Clark, was honored with the Broward County Sheriff’s Special Recognition Award. In the evening, there were 2 events; the first was the GLBX celebrating their 4 year anniversary at the Riverside Hotel on Las Olas. Congrats to the Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce for creating the Gay and Lesbian Business Exchange as well as Julian (former chair) and Michael Faerber (current chair) for producing such great networking events. The second event was in Miami as the LGBT Visitors center hosted its Second Annual Holigay Celebration and Toy Drive to a packed house. On Friday, Smirnoff presented Winter Wonderland at Score with a photo booth and lots of Holiday Treats. On Saturday the Gay Mens Chorus of South Florida presented a concert at the Sunshine Cathedral. Also on Saturday were the annual Winterfest Boat Parade and the closing party of Matty’s.

Mona’s presents their 15th annual Leftover Christmas Grab Bag. Here’s how it works: stop in anytime from 9 am to 9 pm and buy a drink. Once you do you get into Mona’s Gift Village and grab your own package (more than 60% have cash). Then you go to the pool table and open your package so everyone can see what you got. There are over 502 gifts and you never know what you are going to get. I was there last year and the fun part is watching people open their gift, especially when they get a gag gift.

This is HOT

In The Men Next Door writer/director Rob Williams (Make The Yuletide Gay, Role/Play) returns with a new romantic comedy about finding love a little too close to home. As he reluctantly celebrates his 40th birthday, Doug (Eric Dean, star of Arizona Sky and Nine Lives) finds himself falling for two very different but equally lovable men – Jacob, a secure 50-year-old (Michael Nicklin) who came out later in life, and Colton, an adventurous 30-year-old (Benjamin Lutz, star of The Love Patient and Bite Marks) who literally is the boy next door. What Doug doesn’t know right away is that the two men are, in fact, father and son! How long can Doug juggle both relationships before everyone finds out the truth?  The Men Next Door is available at Wolfe Video for the sale price of $19.95.
