Dance Organizers Scott Lappin and Lee Foxx Talk World OutGames 2017

It was a pleasure to sit down with longtime friends and dancers Scott Lappin and Lee Foxx who are Dance Sport Organizer and Country Western Organizer, respectively, and Chairmen for the judges for the dance sport competition at the World OutGames Miami.

Q: How long have you been dancing?
A: Scott – 37 years professionally. I started dancing at the age of 8, but started dancing professionally after college.

Lee – I started professionally 39 years ago and, just like Scott, I started training professionally to be a teacher right after college and have been doing it ever since.

Q: What are your biggest accomplishments in dance?

Scott – Numerous Top Teacher awards. Participating in the Gay Games 1998, 2002, and 2006.

Lee – I am certified as an adjudicator in all of the different dance style with the Imperial Society. I have judged the National Dance Sport Championships. I am also treasurer for the North America Same Sex Partner Dance Association. I am also the competition director of the International Association of Gay/Lesbian Country Western Dance Clubs. I competed with Scott in the Gay Games in 1998 and 2002.

Q: Why and how did you guys get involved in the World Out Games?
A: Lee – Bruce Townsend, the vice president of the International Association of Gay/Lesbian Country Western Dance Clubs, who lives in Miami, was very involved with the bidding for the World Outgames and he approached me and asked for others and I recommended Scott.

Scott – Since we are both industry professionals for decades we love organizing and put together events, so it was right up our alley. We love organizing the sport that we love and supporting the same-sex dance world.

Q: How does someone get to see the dance competitions?
A: Go to OutGames.org, under dance sports and you can purchase tickets there.
