Bachelor Auction: Sold! To the Highest Bidder!

Auctioneer Daisy Deadpetals

Next week the hottest matchmaker in town won’t be Grindr. It won’t be Scruff. And it definitely won’t be Match.com. It’ll be Benjamin. Benjamin Franklin.

You heard that right: Next Thursday night at Hunters, old Ben Franklin will be bringing people together like only he can, as 20 of South Florida’s hottest, most eligible bachelors and bachelorettes hit the stage — and the auction block — at Deliver the Dream’s 6th Annual Red Hot Party.

Ben will be getting a little help from drag divas Daisy Deadpetals and Electra, who will be auctioning off every delectable lot — each one complete with a fun and fabulous date package — to the highest bidder. So flip those couch cushions, ’cause where else you gonna get yourself a date?

Speaking of ’causes, it’s all for a good one. (No, not you.) Proceeds from the auction, and from the whole Red Hot Party, will go to support Deliver the Dream’s first-ever LGBTQ Youth Retreat.

Since its first retreat for families affected by cancer in 2002, Deliver the Dream has brought hope and healing to nearly 7,000 family members across the southeast United States. The group’s retreats usually support families facing major health issues (cancer, autism, spina bifida, Down syndrome, epilepsy) or other challenges (the death of a loved one). The first LGBTQ Youth Retreat will be open to local teenagers who have been struggling with coming out.

As many as 15 teens and their families will get away for a weekend of fun and supportive activities designed to enhance coping skills, reduce stress, and foster relationships with other families dealing with a teen’s coming-out process.

It’s not often you get the chance help an LGBTQ teen come out just by coming out (to Hunters) yourself. So, come on down next Thursday. And bring your checkbook. As you can see from the auction catalog at right, these bachelors and bachelorettes are fine.

Red Hot Party. Thu May 10, 7pm at Hunters (2232 Wilton Dr, Wilton Manors). Admission is free. For more info: deliverthedream.org.
