The Pub presents the Synergy Twins performing live

Thursday, August 15

Johnsons presents “Sunserve Strips,” a benefit for Trans Men and Women hosted by Velvet LeNore with performances by Tiffany Arieagus, Erika Norell, Melissa St. John, Jackie Jae, Fantasia Royale (Miss Alibi 2019), Rianna Patrone, and Luca Storm. The Outshine Film Fests next monthly Glow screening is at the Classic Gateway Theatre (1820 E Sunrise Blvd. Fort Lauderdale) at 7pm, where they will be showing the movie: “Fireflies” (Luciérnagas). After he stows away on a cargo ship leaving Turkey, Ramin unexpectedly ends up in Veracruz, Mexico. Having escaped persecution as a young gay man in Iran, his home country, he suddenly finds himself far from everything he knows, experiencing the limbo of exile in a tropical port where his past and future are constantly confronting new relationships and rekindled desires. Ramin tries to cope with the distance from his lover, who stayed in Tehran. The paradox of his feelings is immense: while in a state of longing and nostalgia, he savors his newfound freedom far from Iran.

Stonewall National Museum – Wilton Manors (2157 Wilton Drive) presents the exhibition opening of PULP: Erotic Paperbacks in Gay Male Culture from 6 to 8pm with curator talk by Joe Madura at 7 pm. From the late 1950s, a robust gay publishing industry produced a steady stream of cheap paperback books exploring homosexuality as a practice and a burgeoning culture. Pulp fiction prompted men to navigate imaginatively their own sexual impulses and curiosities, many for the first time. Using SNMA’s extensive archival collection, this exhibition highlights several late twentieth-century authors and contextualizes their books as cultural artifacts within the rise and fall of pulp fiction. On exhibition until November 10.

Prime Gentlemen/SAGE present: ‘King Cobra’ at 1:30 pm at the Pride Center (2020 N. Dixie Highway, Wilton Manors). This is a sexy, ripped-from-the-headlines thriller about a deliciously dark tale of murder in the gay adult film world. Based on a stranger-than-fiction true story, it’s a deliciously dark, twisted plunge into the behind-the-scenes world of the gay p*rnography industry. It stars Christian Slater as a closeted gay p*rn mogul who runs the skin-flick empire, Cobra Video, from his seemingly ordinary suburban home, and James Franco as a rival gay p*rn producer. This is a free event and they will also serve free soda and popcorn. (For those interested, an optional 2 for 1 lunch menu is available before the movie at 12pm at Galanga Thai Restaurant).
