Thursday, November 10

The Miami Beach Botanical Garden is pleased to announce the opening of a new exhibition, Miami Contrasts and Harmonies: The Art of William Oberheiser. The public is invited to meet the artist and view his work at a cocktail reception from 6pm-9pm. This exhibit will be on display in the Garden’s Butterfly Gallery through November 20. Saturday, November 12

Art Frenzie, galleries and custom framing will be celebrating their 25th anniversary starting at 6:30pm. The event will feature lite bite, drinks, entertainment and 25% off all in stock merchandise.

The Eagle Wilton Manors continues their 3rd anniversary weekend celebration with DJ Deanne. They will also feature a special VIP Cardholder reception from 8-10pm in the Bear Cave, which will feature food and more.

‘Symphony in Lights’ is back at Gulfstream Park Village, running nightly from Nov 12 – Dec. 31. Families are invited to go and see the seasonal lights display in the open-air lifestyle center. The property will be illuminated in more than 250,000 LED lights, all set to the sounds of holiday favorites and popular music from yesterday and today. A 10-minute light show will begin at the top of every hour from 6-11pm. The kick-off event is today from 7-10pm. WSVN meteorologist Vivian Gonzalez will serve as the emcee and the Gay Men’s Chorus of South Florida will perform a lively set along with the Valerie Tyson 8-piece band. Even Santa Claus himself will be present, led into the festivities by a group of elves and Nutcracker Stilt Walkers.

Girl Kiss Girl Events will host their second event, Kings, Queens, and Inbetweens at The Deck on 13th (545 NE 13th St, Fort Lauderdale). The event aims to bring the LGBTQ+ community together in an interactive forum through their signature speed-friending event starting at 9pm. Girl Kiss Girl is comprised of a core team of four lesbian activists within the LGBTQ+ South Florida area focused on inclusion and community building. Music is provided by resident DJ’s ZEHNO and Lady Snack Daddy and the team curates talent from the South Florida Drag community and other local favorites like Ali Samahi, a local fire/ burlesque performer. Tickets are $11 Presale on Eventbrite and $15 at Door.

Have a paw-tastic day with your furry friend at the 16th Annual Mutts & Martinis from 2pm to 5pm at Esplanade Park in Downtown Fort Lauderdale. This free, family friendly event features a doggie fashion show, a peanut butter eating contest, a variety of vendors, food trucks and great music. In addition, there is a VIP section featuring unlimited martini and wine samplings for $30 per person. Several pet rescues will also be on hand hoping to find fur-ever homes for their canine residents. The Manor Complex honors Veteran’s and Veteran’s Day with the “Camoflage.” In the Ballroom catch the sounds of the hottie from Greece, music superstar DJ/Producer GSP with shows by TP Lords. In the Ivy Dance Room and Patio, Noche Latina Saturdays celebrates starring Miss Noche Latina 2022, Calypso Monroe and former Miss Florida at Large Kimberly Venom, along with resident DJ Duniel and sexy Latin Go-Go Papi’s. Arianna’s Center, Mckenzie Project, Transinclusivegroup.org, and TransSocial, Inc present the 8th annual Bishop SF Makalani Mahee Transgender Equality Awards at 6:30pm at Hunters Nightclub. This night will honor South Florida’s community advocates, organizations, and healthcare providers who are working to advance Transgender equality.

Coral Gables’ pristine destination for fine shopping and dining, will present “Back to Tradition,” its 19th Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony, sponsored by Nicklaus Children’s Hospital and Belmont Village Senior Living, at 6pm.  One of the largest tree lighting ceremonies and holiday celebrations in South Florida, the event will include the 50-foot tree-lighting and a live performance by South Florida’s own Camie Liz. Attendees will also enjoy a variety of interactive activities, entertainment and a highly anticipated appearance by Santa Claus who will kick-off the festive season. Arianna’s Center presents “A Night of Stars” in observation of Transgender Day Of Remembrance. The event will take place at the United Church of Christ (2501 NE 30th St, Fort Laud) from 6 to 9pm and will be hosted by Camille Lewis and Rajae Narinesingh. The Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to Tiffany Arieagus. There will be many additional awards being given out, and plenty of entertainment.

Saturday, November 19

NSU Art Museum (One East Las Olas Blvd) presents their Members Preview reception for the fall exhibitions from 5:30 to 7:30pm. This event is FREE for members and $20 for non-members.

As part of its 39th edition, Miami Dade College’s (MDC) Miami Book Fair (MBF) will launch the new Reading East, a program that showcases the work of authors in fiction, nonfiction, and poetry exploring Middle Eastern and South Asian experiences. Representing nationalities from Bangladesh to Palestine, this program embodies the Fair’s vision of an inclusive, attentive, and sustainable community of writers, readers, and collaborators across all disciplines and cultures.

Arianna’s Center, Mckenzie Project, Transinclusivegroup.org, and TransSocial, Inc present “Transgender Day of Remembrance: say their names and honor them with action” from 6-8:30pm. Gather with them at 6pm at Justin Flippen Park in Wilton Manors (2109 Wilton Drive) and from there everyone will walk down Wilton Drive to the mural honoring our beloved siblings at Wilton Collective and then to the Pride Center by 7pm for an evening of spoken word, music and performance, and a community meal as we remember our transgender siblings whose lives have been stolen by violence.

Congrats to Steven Barnett, MD

CAN Community Health (CAN) has appointed Steven Barnett, MD as Chief Medical Officer. Dr. Barnett joined the healthcare nonprofit in 2017 at its Columbia, South Carolina clinic. His role was later expanded to serve as Medical Director of CAN clinics in South Carolina, Virginia, and New Jersey. He has served as Interim Chief Medical Officer since August 2022. Dr. Barnett will step into his permanent role immediately, and beginning January 1, 2023, Dr. Barnett will also oversee all dental services provided by CAN.

Dame Olivia Newton-John, who we recently lost and MISS SO MUCH, is celebrated with a “Deluxe Edition” remastered release of her double platinum album Olivia Newton-John’s Greatest Hits, in honor of the album’s 45th Anniversary. Originally released in 1977, the record has sold over 5 million copies worldwide and features her biggest international hits from her 1971 debut through her 1976 album Come On Over. Among some of the songs featured include all of Olivia’s U.S. Top 40 hits from that era including the #1 singles “I Honestly Love You” (which won two Grammy Awards in 1975 for “Record of the Year” and “Best Pop Vocal Performance, Female”), the Grammy winning “Let Me Be There” (“Best Country Vocal Performance, Female” 1974) and “Have You Never Been Mellow.”
