Jinkx Monsoon recently became the first drag queen to play Mama Morton in Chicago on Broadway, and “RuPaul’s Drag Race” fans are praising the queen for changing history. Jinkx won “Drag Race” season 5 in 2013 and competed in All Stars season 7, the first season with all former “Drag Race” winners competing. Broadway has always been a safe space for the queer community but hasn’t always had strong representation on stage. The industry still has a long way to go, but casting the “Drag Race” contestant in Chicago shows how serious they are about making change.
