FlockFest Heads Back To The Beach: A Week-Long Celebration of Community and Joy in South Florida

In this week’s Out South Florida, I look at what was once a day of quirky fun at the beach that’s now a week long event – raising money for the community and raising joy in South Florida. You’d recognize the FlockFest by the sea of inflatable flamingos floating off Fort Lauderdale Beach, but the work is year round. They hold fundraisers and parties every few weeks, but this week is the week! Saturday’s event at the beach and Sunday’s pool party are sold out, but you can win tickets Thursday at LIT during bingo. Later Thursday is Leather and Feather party at Eagle and Friday is Flock the Block at Hunters Nightclub. Over eight years, FlockFest has grown into a staple on the mostly empty summer party schedule, and founder Steven Crawford says it’s been deliberate, telling me, “It keeps building on itself. We focus on getting our brand out there.” This year they have new, inflatable bars, a bigger dance area, and nearly twice as many cabanas – and there’s a cabana decorating contest.
