At Sunshine Cathedral we feed thousands every year that live in food insecurity. Especially children. That is why we closely examined the news this week that Florida is unlikely to seek $248 million in federal aid to feed hungry children. The Department of Children and Families said the money isn’t needed and they don’t want any strings attached to the money provided. Unfortunately time is running out for Governor DeSantis to opt into a new federal program that would help feed 2 million children next summer who might otherwise go hungry. DCF, who is best equipped to run the program said it wouldn’t be pursuing the money. Mallory McManus from DCF said “We anticipate that our state’s full approach to serving children will continue to be successful this year without any additional federal programs that inherently always come with some federal strings attached.”
