Broadway Babes: Mr. Man Shines Its Spotlight on the Year’s Male Tony Nominees

The 77th Annual Tony Awards take place on June 16th, and the team at Mr. Man are gearing up for it by spotlighting the year’s sexiest male thespian nominees and their out of costume achievements!

The round-up begins with Liev Schreiber, nominated for “Best Leading Actor in a Play” for his role in Doubt.  Mr. Schreiber first appeared on Broadway in 1993’s In the Summer House. Since then, he has starred in over a dozen Broadway productions, winning the Tony Award in 2015 for “Best Featured Actor in a Play” for Glengarry Glen Ross.  Schreiber earns Mr. Man’s recognition for his skinny-dipping scene in the movie, Ray Donovan.

Daniel Radcliffe, nominated for “Best Featured Actor in a Musical” for his role in Merrily We Roll Along, also gets a nod from Mr. Man this year.  The Harry Potter star famously kicked off his theater career with Equus in 2008, and has been in numerous Broadway productions since including How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. Merrily We Roll Along is his first Tony nomination to date.  Radcliffe earns Mr. Man’s appreciation for his role in 2013’s Kill Your Darlings, where he revealed his backside in a gay sex scene.

Jonathan Groff is a Broadway veteran and has been in contention for two Tonys previously – for his starring role in Spring Awakening and for his scene-stealing portrayal of King George III in Hamilton.  He’s nominated this year for “Best Leading Actor in a Musical” for Sondheim’s Merrily We Roll Along.  In addition to his stage work, Groff is the voice of Kristoff in Disney’s Frozen and he recently starred in the fourth installment of the Matrix franchise, The Matrix Resurrections.  Mr. Man is recognizing Jonathan Groff for his HBO series Looking and for his full-frontal scene in the little-known 2010 film, Twelve Thirty.

Corey Stoll’s four Broadway appearances span twenty years, with his first being in 2003’ Henry IV.   His nomination for “Best Featured Actor In A Play” in Appropriate is his first Tony recognition, and his fans couldn’t be more excited.  He’s a favorite on the small screen with roles in HBO’s House of Cards and Girls.  It is Stoll’s sex scene opposite fellow thespian Andrew Rannells in Girls that earns him his Mr. Man mention.

Hollywood actor Eddie Redmayne is no stranger to theatre.  He made his Broadway debut in Red, earning a Tony Award for “Best Featured Actor in a Play”. He starred as The Emcee in the West End revival of Cabaret in 2022, winning a Laurence Olivier Award for “Best Actor in a Musical”.  He is now nominated for a Tony for the Broadway production of Cabaret and is widely viewed as the frontrunner. Meanwhile, Mr. Man is recognizing Redmayne for his role playing a trans woman in the film, The Danish Girl, where he appeared in a full-frontal scene.

Rounding out Mr. Man’s spotlight on the year’s sexiest male Tony nominees is Jim Parsons, nominated for “Best Featured Actor in A Play” for Mother Play.   The out actor has a proud history of playing challenging gay roles on Broadway, including in The Normal Heart and The Boys In The Band.  This year’s nomination marks Parsons’ first Tony nomination.  He has yet to film a nude scene on screen, however, Parsons was featured prominently in Matt Bomer’s full frontal nude scene in The Boys In The Band, and so for that, he receives an honorable mention from Mr. Man.
