The news of decades long stability in the South Florida LGBTQ community is undergoing a changing landscape. Steven Adkins, President/CEO of the Greater Miami LGBTQ Chamber of Commerce (MDGLCC), has announced his retirement, effective June 30, 2025. With two decades of leadership, Adkins has been a transformative figure for the LGBTQ community in Miami-Dade County, forging powerful connections between queer individuals and the broader business community.
According to Marty Davis, MDGLCC Board Chair, “Steven’s vision and passion have not only uplifted our Chamber locally but have also cemented our place as one of the largest and most impactful LGBTQ Chambers in the U.S.” Under Adkins’ leadership, the Chamber’s membership grew twentyfold, and the organization earned the “Chamber of the Year” award twice, in 2019 and 2023.
Additionally, the MDGLCC Foundation opened the world’s first LGBTQ Visitor Center on Miami Beach, solidifying Greater Miami as a top LGBTQ-friendly destination. Adkins has received numerous accolades, including the SAGE 2025 Pioneer Award and the 2020 South Florida Business Journal, Business of Pride Award. The Chamber is now seeking a successor to continue its mission. An event celebrating Adkins’ legacy will be announced soon. Stay tuned to keep updated on this developing story.
