As you may know, one of the disciplines encouraged in Lent is almsgiving (which just means making donations to worthy causes). The Queer God Squad encourages everyone who enjoys or benefits from the ministry of the Sunshine Cathedral with generous contributions. Another ministry that enthusiastically supports this is the Global Justice Institute. If you aren’t giving a little extra to any other cause this Lent, consider the Global Justice Institute.
GJI is completely staffed by Queer ministers. It is housed at the Metropolitan Community Church in New York City and its focus is on helping LGBTQ people all over the world resist oppression. Whether it’s helping support a new LGBTQ church in Latin America or Africa, raising funds for fire victims, helping lesbian women in South Asia develop a trade so they can be financially independent, or supporting Pride parades in Eastern Europe or the Caribbean, or supporting health services in an island nation, or helping individuals find safe haven after fleeing an oppressive regime, or condemning unjust wars, joining class action suits for just causes, speaking out for the Trans* community, or supporting temporary shelters for Queer youth…GJI works tirelessly to be a lighthouse in the fog of oppression.
Global Justice operates in donated space and is staffed completely by volunteers, so every dime given goes directly to the services it offers. Your support of the Global Justice Institute is welcome and will make a difference in lives all over the world. To make a contribution to SunshineCathedral.org/donate.
