Could Bowen Yang Be The First Ever Gay Host of SNL Weekend Update?

Bowen Yang might just make history on Saturday Night Live. Appearing with fellow comedian Matt Rogers on Hot Ones: Versus to promote the 2025 Las Culturistas Culture Awards, their tongue-in-cheek take on an awards show, Yang floated an idea that instantly lit up fan speculation.

Rogers teased, “We both auditioned for Saturday Night Live, but only you were asked to join. If you could have me replace any current SNL cast, who would it be?”

After trying to sidestep the question, Yang finally went for it, saying, “I’m gonna give Che and Colin the chop so that you and I can do ‘Update’ together.”

On this, Rogers shot back, “We’d give a new, fresh take. Hey Colin, hey Che… Ya burnt!”

Colin Jost and Michael Che have cohosted “Weekend Update” since 2014. Rumors of their possible departure have been swirling, and with Yang’s rising profile, the thought of the first openly gay “Update” anchor is one fans won’t be able to shake.
