Protesters Rally After Texas Removes Pride Crosswalk in Houston’s Montrose District

Several people gathered along Houston’s Montrose Bridge on Monday to protest the removal of the Pride crosswalk, a move they say erases LGBTQ+ visibility. Governor Greg Abbott defended the action as removing “political ideologies” from Texas streets for safety, citing federal orders. But protesters disagree. Protestor Davis Mendoza Daruzman said, “Governor Abbott made the decree to remove our rainbow sidewalks as a way to remove our visibility… but we’re really out here to make sure it backfires on him.”
