A Florida parent’s attempt to ban an LGBTQ+ children’s book has been shut down. The Pinellas County Schools Instructional Materials Review Committee voted unanimously to keep Out of the Blue by Robert Tregoning on school shelves. The book, which celebrates individuality and self-expression, was accused of promoting a gay ideology of ‘coming out of the closet.’ Parent Nicole St. Leger told the committee the book “isn’t pushing an agenda.” Another member said it’s “appropriate for all ages.” The 2024 award-winning title previously survived a similar challenge in Sarasota County.
